For the most part, nobody in here is too pumped. I think everyone realizes Mason stole this one and the team still has lots of issues to work out. While I don't agree with everything in your rant, I do agree that it's pretty obvious that the team isn't "cured", and is not about to go undefeated the rest of the way. But so far, I like what I've heard from Berube and I'm willing to give him some time to try to get his systems in place before I write off the entire team. They may not have quite as much talent and skill as some think, but if they play hard and buy into what Berube is selling they may eek there way into the playoffs. Gonna be tough though, and I suspect they'll need a few more steals by the goalie before it's all said and done.

pretty much...they'll most likely end up making a trade as well.

They were ripping Panaccio on the radio all day today about being part of the wussy reporter group the Flyers have. I believe it was said over and over that he was too much of a fan and not enough reporter.
- Glak18

Not sure what radio you're referring to, but I would say that Philly sports radio, especially WIP is hardly a good measuring stick for anything. I think Tim's biggest issue isn't that he's more of a fan than he is a reporter, it's that he's a Penguins fan stuck covering the Flyers. That, and he's more concerned about generating drama and web hits than he is about actual reporting of facts. If that makes him a wuss (and it very well could given that he's a Pens fan), then ok.

Maybe Berube becomes an untapped genius, but I'm getting tired of hearing year after year that they just need to show effort, jam, competitiveness, intensity or another random vague adjective that means nothing. They need to play better hockey, period. Passion doesn't get added to a team overnight, in a week, a month or a couple. You either have it or you don't. They look like crap in 3rd periods because they are burned out from running around like chickens with no heads in the 1st. Good teams play smart. All the running around in the world chasing the puck accomplishes nada.

I never listen to WIP. Most likely all the guys were referring to ahole questions that reporters ask like...

"Do you think think they played with good effort tonight?", "Ok, thanks that's all I wanted to ask".

Yup Mason was the bright spot. The ironic thing is Mason could become the goalie the Flyers have been seeking for many many years and suck everywhere else.

thanks. they still don't look like they're even close to being a plyoff team. we'll know by ~ Dec 1 about all we can about them. very fragile right now...except in goal

What other teams don't play Flyer hockey?

I just looked up the definition of Flyer hockey...

"A team that is so tough that they tire out their opponent when they advance to the next round in the playoffs."

ive been thinking that myself. ive honestly never been one to think mason was that talented, but he sure has been solid. and for many years, it seemed like just slightly above average competency was all the flyers needed. now the lineup in front of him is dripping with talent, but just looks jumbled.

it definitely is still early. the pens have been doing well, but nothing is set for either team this early. i think the first couple games are more important to establish a foundation to build off of going forward than their actual value in the win/loss column this early.

thats the beauty of a fresh season. no team is anywhere close to clinching or being out of anything yet.

although i will say, im not a coach by any means, but i do think the new coach needs to reevaluate his line combos in order to put his skill guys in the best position to succeed.

Sure it is early and a lot of teams go through inconsistent slumps, but the problems the Flyers are having have been here well over a decade. Different players, different coaches, different GM...yet they play the same, make the same mistakes. I'm at the point that I am sick of making the playoffs almost every year and getting nothing for it. I'd rather have a team that misses the playoffs 8 out of 10 and win a cup. Instead the Flyers organization thinks buying gorilla tape to wrap a turd makes it smell better.

this mentality always makes me think of the florida marlins. for better or worse. being one of the perennial worst franchises in sports, theyve had a hell of a lot of postseason success all things considered.

i do feel you on the playoff failures though. i still shudder about the thrashing the flyers doled out. it does suck to see bad mistakes made on the biggest stage. on one hand though, it is good to be a fan of a team where the standard is set so high that the season is basically irrelevant until the playoffs start. i know it doesnt erase all ills, but its better than being loyal to a franchise to which even the owner is apathetic.

I was thinking teams like Tampa, Carolina, even to a lesser extent Pittsburgh. Although the Marlins have more championships than most in the last 20 years. At least the Florida Marlins organization knows how to build a championship team, then do it again. It's more embarrassing winning a lot of games every year to accomplish the same thing as teams that never win. It also shows you that the organization knows how to build the bare minimum to make it and cluelessness on how to take the next step.

one thing i would never accuse the flyers of is only providing the bare minimum. maybe not always the brightest spenders perhaps, but the effort has always been there. and even under the best of circumstances, i know its a cliche but the stanley cup is the hardest team trophy to win.
