well outside of Rosehill at least it sounds like a step in the right direction and its really good to see Mason with another strong game.

BTW what did Rosehill do?

- BiggE

It was a step, but it was a small one. You could see the start of what Berube was speaking about, but it's in the embryonic stage.

I do think they need to take a long, hard look at getting Gustafsson in the lineup or looking at a move to add more speed on the blueline.

All I'm saying is I have no idea what people expected to see in that game tonight. What I saw was very close to max effort and a strong commitment to the new system. Didnt matter if they sucked at it tonight for me
- Just5

Just kidding around. But, I was disappointed by their effort in the third period.

They look so slow...

It's amazing how hard they make getting the puck out of their own zone look, but that's been an issue for a while with this team.

Haven't you heard? It's not a roster composition issue. It's how they play.

The Colorado Avalanche are 3-0.

Their top 6 defenseman are Corey Sarich, Nate Guenin, Tyson Barrie, Andre Benoit, Erik Johnson, and Jan Hejda.

Too bad they don't have a roster made up of players who play up to their potential.

That's true -- it's really hard to get zone time or attack in waves with the roster composition the way it is.

What I've been talking about is something Brian Campbell did in the third period. The Flyers had the puck deep and had the beginning of a forecheck...and Campbell just took the puck, spun a couple of times, and skated it to safety and then fed the puck up to a forward, on the tape.

He broke that forecheck by himself.

That's all I'm saying.

- AllInForFlyers

i don't see how that is really important now. they just have to play better and that'll solve everything.

you see, i've been enlightened by some posts i just read and...well, if you don't understand by now, you probably never will...

iow,to those who understand no explanation is necessary and to those who don't...none is possible

He discussed one player. The Flyers have the talent to be better then they are. Both last year and this year to this point. It's as simple as that.

And for that reason they'll be coming back to reality at some point this season.

Nice story though.

They can make quicker passes that will mitigate the lack of speed. But I noticed, plainly, that they were supporting the puck much better, especially when they were trying to move up ice.

It was far from perfect, and they got away from it at times, but it was there. I do think they hit the wall a little bit. They worked hard for the first half of the game, and I'm hopeful that the slow down in that regard was from the 3 games in 4 days aspect, with what was basically a full practice in place of a morning skate.

The Panthers have a lot of young, talented kids and they definitely skated hard for 60 minutes.

What is that reality? I think it shows that the reality is, if you play hard and play the right way. You can win some games. And maybe you didn't get the point of that. The point is that the Flyers defense is far better then the Avalanche's is. But yet the Flyers started the Season 0-3. Is it because of the makeup of their defense? Or is it for other reasons?

What's the new system?

If that's close to max effort, the Flyers are going to get a very good pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

- MJL

I dont know what its called. But there was definitely consistent elements of what Berube was talking about. 5 players to a zone. Several times all 5 flyers were below the faceoff dot in their zone initiating the breakout. Gaps much better, that is new. In the offensive zone, looks like a more restrained forecheck and a stronger neutral zone presence as one forward was always rotating back to the oppositions blue line.

I think there were signs of it. But I wouldn't expect them to have it down pat after one practice and one game. I'm not concerned about the system. I'm concerned about the intensity level. It hasn't been there this Season. Regardless of what the system is, if the competitiveness doesn't pick up, it won't be that good.

Well Berube said in the presser "Overall effort, I have no problem with it"

Looks like it will be a long year.

I think it's going to get better. I expect more energy from them in the future. They got outworked over the majority of the game by Florida. They still spent large chunks of time in their own end. The PP isn't clicking. And they aren't getting a spark from anyone. It's not going to happen overnight.

Let me guess....everyone is pumped?

Yeah, different coach same play, but got above average goaltending and luck.

The last 2 days all on the radio people are complaining about changing the culture, the funny thing is the people kept talking about "the team". How about the fans? Maybe they need to let go of this BS about "patience" with young players. Hate to break it to people, but teams win with young cores, not waiting until they hit their "prime" of 27-30. Same regurgitated brainwashing propaganda, very evident during the Flyers broadcast. Jackson had the balls to say "The Flyers need to play with passion and effort" and they "lost that passion and effort under Laviolette", but they "had that passion and effort for 3 years under Lavy". Really? Has Jackson actually watched the team the past decade and a half while he broadcasts? I love turning on other games and watch teams playing "with skill" and "making fundamental hockey plays".

Hartnell...he needs to go and now. How come the Flyers have so many "power forwards" that have the balance of Donald Brashear? Pathetic.

Turnover Timonen...If the Flyers resign this guy again they have absolutely no commitment to winning.

Simmonds....the guy is awesome, on the 3rd or 4th line. Hey big guy, we all know you're going to keep shifting along the boards and loose the puck. Don't bother with the head fakes. His game is more predictable than a fat guy at McDonalds. Who has the worst balance on their skates, Simmer or Hartnell...ooh that's tough.

Streit...please go away, forever. Obviously he signed here to end his career. Philly is the place where players who used to be good come to die...please reference Eagles, Phillies and Sixers as well.

Giroux...Is your finger hurting? Then sit and rest it. Real stars don't slump like 2nd year pros. Maybe he should spend less time practicing through the legs dekes and dropping to his knees to make a pass and focus on an overall game like the real stars have.

I could go on with every player, except....Lecavalier and Rinaldo. The only two players on this team who are actually filling their role. Unfortunately Vinny hasn't learned the bad habits that come with playing in Philly, so I'll give him 2-3 months. Sorry Mason and Emery have done their jobs so far. Brodeur in his prime wouldn't win on this team, stop blaming goaltending.

There's one thing I know for sure, this team will NEVER win under Snider ownership. I'll take the bet with anyone. When he either steps down, sells or dies than the team will go through a real rebuild and have a shot at building a championship team. See Chicago Blackhawks; reference Wirtz.

Mike Sielski asked Berube after the game if he "has any punishment planned " for Rosehill.

Chief gave him the death stare.

"You want me to spank him?

- bmeltzer[Pause] Dumb question. Get lost!"

The give-and-take with Berube is going to be verrrrrry interesting, especially when they lose.

Hahaha. The Chief has a great death stare.

Was not familiar with this Sielski dude before yesterday, but he has not impressed me thus far. Hard to believe you could say this about anyone, but as bad as she was, Lisa Hillary may be better. If he doesn't improve pretty quickly, The Chief could kill him by midseason.

I'm sure Berube will have something to say to Rosehill about being so monumentally stupid, but he certainly won't share it with a reporter, especially a new one who seems to be trying to make himself more hated than Timmy P overnight.

They were ripping Panaccio on the radio all day today about being part of the wussy reporter group the Flyers have. I believe it was said over and over that he was too much of a fan and not enough reporter.

Do you work for the Flyers? You have been saying the same rehashed BS since 2007. Competitiveness? Really, that's the whole problem? Sounds like a cop out for reasoning.

Lots and lots of angry words
- Glak18

For the most part, nobody in here is too pumped. I think everyone realizes Mason stole this one and the team still has lots of issues to work out. While I don't agree with everything in your rant, I do agree that it's pretty obvious that the team isn't "cured", and is not about to go undefeated the rest of the way. But so far, I like what I've heard from Berube and I'm willing to give him some time to try to get his systems in place before I write off the entire team. They may not have quite as much talent and skill as some think, but if they play hard and buy into what Berube is selling they may eek there way into the playoffs. Gonna be tough though, and I suspect they'll need a few more steals by the goalie before it's all said and done.
