Well, so far, he does have 2G/4A in 2 games in the toughest junior league in the world. I'm not gonna dwell on it, I'm just a big fan.

I just think a 100MPH slapshot is like the equivalent of a baseball player who can hit the ball 450ft.

Its sexy, but it doesn't guarantee the player will score a lot of goals or hit a lot of home runs.

I wish I had seats behind the goal like I had years ago at the Spectrum. From that vantage point you can really tell what the breakout issues were.

Watching from the couch only tells you so much. Without a wide view watching simultaneously what each d-man and forward are doing while coming out of their own zone, it's hard to say with any certainty where the deficiencies are, who should've passed it up quicker, what side they should've come up, who didn't lend enough support in transition through the neutral zone...

- 77rams

Breakouts aren't complicated. I can see all I need to see on TV. But certainly a better view up high live.

I repeat: We're not losing because we have the most talented team in the NHL that has been mismanaged.

Disagree if you want. Time will tell.

- AllInForFlyers

I've stated many times why they are losing. It's because they simply aren't matching the compete level of the opposition mainly. Plus execution and individual breakdowns. And as a whole coaching wise, going back to last Season, they have been mismanaged as far as Coaching. They certainly aren't losing because the roster doesn't have enough talent to be a winning team.

I think Gardiner has more upside. He's a potential all star defenseman. Schenn looks like a future solid top 6 guy.
- PhillySportsGuy

Isn't Schenn already a solid top 6 guy? Schenn has top pairing shutdown defenseman potential.

I'd say he's already a solid top 4 guy. We can't all just say he sucks based on one boneheaded play on a night when the whole team seemed to be lacking oxygen to their brains.

And the potential to be a top pairing shutdown guy I agree with.

I thought that too just didn't care enough to back read. As to whether B.Schenn or Gardiner have more upside, that is a total crap shoot. A defenseman like Gardiner could take till he's 28 to put it all together, and by that time plenty could have happened to completely derail him off that track with benchings and overall miscues.

Likewise with BSchenn, his gritty sandpaper play and scoring touch is nice, but he's far from a dominate forward by any stretch. But his speed, tenacity and hands give him the ability to be a good top-6 powerforward/playmaker hybrid. Just has to put it all together.

The problem in Toronto is they have a glut of young guys in the back who can move the puck and they're trying to get Gardiner to up his physical game and it's just not happening.

You can forget about trading Schenn for him. They don't have the cap space. Something like Laughton and multiple picks might interest them but I think they feel like they're selling low.

Yeah, I see him as a nice piece, not ever elite. But you need those guys too. Balance the roster.

Having to demote Liles and carry 2.95M on the Cap for him is hurting them there.

Love this article and the things Berube has to say.

http://www.csnphilly.com/...s-influence-darryl-sutter

Especially these quotes.

“Definitely,” Berube said. “I want them to play as a team. I want them to play for each other, for their goalie, for their defensemen, for the forwards. Play together as a team, with and without the puck. That’s what I want. That’s what they need to understand.

“They need to understand that they don’t want to let their teammates down. Don’t leave your goalie hung out and dry. Play a team game all the time -- not sometimes, all of the time. Do the little things. Details. That’s how you win hockey games. That’s how you become a good team.”

Berube says he’s going to backtrack from Peter Laviolette’s “attack style” to one that is more suited for the personnel at hand.

“We’re going to make some changes,” Berube said. “Every coach coaches differently. I’m going to have my own style, my own way. It doesn’t make it any better than anybody else’s. It’s just what I believe, and how I want our team to play.”

What he wants the Flyers to do is become more active on their skates when they don’t have the puck. Initiate, not react. Get the puck back, create offense off defense. Put yourself in position to defend, then force the issue for a one-on-one battle for the puck.

Defense creates turnovers, creates offense. That was the philosophy of Ken Hitchcock as well, when he coached the Flyers.

Berube also wants his players to police themselves on the ice.

“You’re only accountable to your teammates, in my opinion,” Berube said. “This guy is sitting beside you. You want to let him down? You want to play like that and let him down? It’s unacceptable.”

Definitely how you win games. Nothing wrong with playing an aggressive style, but in any system there needs to be smart decision making, it seems Lavy was pressing a reckless abandon over-aggressive attack. Which led to all the stupid.
