very myopic perspective about laviolette's firing. first off, another thing the flyers did in the mtl game was score a goal in the second period, which was disallowed by a bad whistle from an out-of-position ref. also, the game was still only 1-0 heading to the third. the other two losses were by a 2-1 margin, so to blame the defense and goaltending is ridiculous. laviolette refused to alter his "system" which the players could not (or would not) implement with success. if all your defensemen are asked to make 70 ft passes from below the goal line because your forwards are 2 zones away all the time then you're in trouble and i don't think the fault is with the defense at that point. regardless of whether you like holmgrem's trades most hockey experts believe that the flyers have a talented team; only time will tell if that is true but i've never seen any team look worse than the flyers do and i think it falls to the coach.
