keep in mind the leafs are a young team still building up, keeping youth is the direction they are in, so moving Gardiner at this point will only be done if its a homerun for the leafs.

that being said, I wouldn't trade Gardiner straight up for Gio, not trying to stir the pot, but moving out a youth player for a 'vet' player is the leafs of the JFjr era, and no thank you.

Problem is, the Eakins act can fly in the AHL. In the NHL, guys will tune him right out eventually. Especially a group of kids. Guys in the AHL are fighting for jobs. What's the worst that can happen to Yak, Hall, Ebs, Nuge etc? They get traded? They sure aren't going to be unemployed or broke any time soon, and they know it.

On top of that, the only veterans on the team to challenge their top 6 ice time are Hemsky and Perron. That team needs veterans to make those kids work hard and earn their ice time, as well as putting them in their place when the time calls for it.

Gardiner would fetch a decent return my man, I think you are quite fired up about this topic. Think about it, Anaheim moved gardiner because Lupul was making BIG bucks and he was hurt non stop for them, they didn't think in a million years he would be a 70+ point player. They tossed in a good quality D man just so that they could move lupul and open up cap space.
