With Laperriere move to Flyers bench in asst. coach role, Kjell Samuelsson assumes dir of player development title. His asst: Derian Hatcher

Ad to that there entire AHL staff, and wow... talk about an incestuous gene pool. Maybe think about getting some outside blood in your organization?

Ed Snyder apparently got defensive about a reporter questioning the Flyers culture today... seems like he is fine with it.

- rival22

Yeah he said they don't need a different perspective because they know what they're dealing with.

Apparently not.

and none of it enlightened when it comes to the modern game. it's still 1972 the organization's front office.

Fleury is the NHL 3rd star of the week

Ovechkin(1) and Eller(2) the other two.

He walked right into it, with his quote ("we don't need a fresh perspective"). At the same time, I do think the tone of the question was kind of obnoxious. There are those that really rail against hiring anybody with a Flyers history. While they should be more open to hiring from outside their own sphere, the idea that only hiring an outsider will fix the problems is overly simplistic thinking.

Now...come one. You know we don't have any problems with the A's. We just need Chucky to be on his best behavior.

Seriously! I remember them talking about doing some day games. I didn't realize they meant ALL of them.

Lucky for me, due to the lovely shutdown we're having(I say that like its weather)I get to be home. Yay!

Seriously. Of course, I'd rather have reason to levy such a complaint right now.

I took off Friday. But not today. Might be a leave early type day out here on the east.

Well i would have to leave about now and i just got here 2 hours ago. I though about DVRing it and attampting to stay away from hearing the score but that's not going to happen.

So impossible. My buddy(Red Wings fan) watches every game at least a half a period behind. I only found that out because of a few angry texts when I asked if he saw a Datsyuk highlight reel goal.

I don't know how anyone can keep that up. Maybe it's m but I enjoy sports how they're supposed to be: LIVE.

How about Sonny Gray going toe to toe in the goose egg dept with Verlander? Coolest name in baseball (after Coco Crisp) and the kids going to be an absolute star.

Which means Beane will be shopping him this winter.

The problem really lays in the blueline. Not that these guys are bad, but they're all 2nd-5th defenders on medium sized cap hits, and enough of them are injury prone to make that problematic. Only recently have they worked to stock up the pipeline with defensemen (so don't expect dividends on that for at least a couple years), and there's still not a legitimate #1 guy in the top six.

The forward core is fine, though the bottom six has thinned out this season.

- BulliesPhan87

But, you have spent the most of any team on the blueline. One would think it would be much better than it is. That is on Holmgren.

He pitched relief earlier in the year against the Pirates for his debut. Lots of movement. I'm not really surprised.

I can't do it... even if I come into a game late and no nothing about it until I start the DVR, I end up skipping ahead to catch up, which defeats the purpose.

Now a lot of times, I will listen to the game or follow updates, then go through the DVR game and watch certain parts where I know things happened.

If youre skilled with the dvr's delay between fast forward and play you can fast forward through an hour of baseball in about 10 minutes seeing every pitch. I think I've perfected it in the last week.

I did that 2 years ago during a Pens playoff game. Was all ready to watch it after it was over and for some reason had a brainfart and came to see what was going on here first.

The anger and blame told me we had lost.

To be fair, clip ~$5m out for Pronger's salary, they're going to use that LTIR every year until his contract is done. But the dollars are very high given the product, for sure. They can get by with this corps for now (if coaching can get the team defense on track, even to some degree) I think, but on the middle and long term they're going to need something. Especially once Timonen is finally done, they're going to need a keystone defender to hold things together.

I think the writing is on the wall for Holmgler. I expect he'll be gone by June.

Perhaps Laviolette needed to go but the Flyers kept the wrong guy.

Holmgren is past due.

Ultimately Snider needs to stop meddling.

I will be writing about this for the other site, hopefully up tonight.

Ding ding ding! Doesn't matter who you bring in, it's hard to be a positive influence as GM when you're forced into things like the Bryz deal.

Sorry to clog up yinz' thread with Flyers chat, I'll try to keep it reined in.
