Except it is not 3 games..
its last season + 3 games.
The Flyers D is serviceable, their goal tending this season is not an issue.
The problem is the system they try and force on the players they have and the lack of in game adjustments.
Lavi has a definite shelf life as he took 2 teams to the finals but is not a long term Barry Trotz type coach. - opeth_pa
in fairness though, Trotz is an anomaly. coaches just don't last that long with absolutely zero playoff success. |

agree but timing is weird. when you fire a guy 3 games into the season it seems like the decision was pretty much already made, because 3 games is nowhere near enough time to judge a team. why not fire him in the offseason? just seems like Philly wasted an entire training camp with a lame-duck coach. - DoubleDown
I agree with you on this.
This should have been done in off season.
Thinking back at Saturdays game against the Habs, they were undisciplined and lack of effort. |

This is not a player issue. They have enough talent in most places. This is a SYSTEM issue. The Flyers have been playing a failed system for the players on the team. Lavy tried fitting a square peg in a round hole.
Hopefully Berube can change the system and get the players moving again. It looked like they were playing in quick sand. |

They should hire Boucher and have them play the 1-3-1 for the Philly fans. At least they'd be on the same page hating it like we did. |

If you mean Brian Boucher--I'm in. Man deserves a sixth shot in the Flyers organization.
If you mean Guy Boucher--

Lindy Ruff did. As a matter of fact he is in Dallas now ruining more promising youth.

Yeah, surprised they didn't give him more time. I didn't see the Flyers other two games but against the Leafs they just got beat by a goaltending performance, they actually carried the play and looked pretty good. |

Your right, this decision was based on last year as well.
Your wrong, The flyers D is brutal and old, their goaltending is a huge issue.
Holmgren needs to go now. |

up front yes. On defense and in goal? lol. No.
I'd take Nabby and Poulin over Mason and Emery, and I have serious concerns with the Isles goaltending. On defense, well, you're gonna get pissed off at Streit. He's a traffic cone back there and he's also developed an annoying habit of "what hurry?" on the power play when carrying the puck up the ice or going back to get it.

at least Ruff made a finals appearance and went to B2B conference finals at one point. Trotz has won what, 2 playoff rounds in 15 years? |

We can agree to disagree on both..
The D and goaltending is serviceable and has not been the problem with this team this year and most of last year.
This system that lavi tried to implement was not suited for the players on his team. Beyond that the other teams adjusted to that system , learned how to shut them down and the coach had no apparent plan for adjusting.
When you have Glaude Giourx and Jake Voracek both A level offensive talent players having 0 points in 3 games, something is not right and that has nothing to do with goal. |

With Lindy, he was so predictable we didn't even need press conferences anymore. We knew who would start in goal. And if someone scored, they got top lines minutes for the rest of the game and start of the next game until that hot hand was gone. |

Holy cow after 3 games? Wait were talking Philly here, no surprise. Remember when coach Roger Neilson took a leave of absence to deal with his cancer. The Flyers played well under interim coach Bill Barber. So when Neilson was ready to return behind the bench, GM Clarke said he was no longer the coach.

no kidding. why waste time having him set up the system for everyone in training camp, all the rookies at rookie camp and then can him 3 games in so everyone can work under a new coach? Makes zero sense. If you're going to yank him after 3 games why bother, just do it in the offseason and give the new coach time to set up his system and teach it to the players in training camp.
This is pretty silly.
