I wouldn't necessarily be against it, but Coburn is one of the guys I feel would benefit most from a new coach.

I think I'd seriously consider it, though, because they have a log jam on defense. But I worry with the injury histories of Grossmann and Meszaros

I understand Coburn's limitations, but please, people: Let's think about what we're saying here.

Braydon Coburn can be traded...but we have to get another defenseman back who's better than everyone else we have.

We are already exposing Grossmann and Meszaros by having them on the third pair.

No offense or anything (genuine).

Yet who the (frank) cares? Its about (frank)ing time that management see this team isn't winning jack poop and stops seeing it that way.

There are young D in the AHL that could use time. For one damn time don't worry so much about the present and focus on the future.

Streit and vinny would impress me 5 years ago...
- JoeRussomanno

Bunny has played well.

I would like to see the team use

Schenn-Timo
Gross-Nose
Streit-Mez

Then I would try to only use the third pairing in offensive or neutral zone situations.

You don't think Grossmann and Meszaros are capable as 3rd pair defenseman?

What I don't understand though is that the first season game they actually looked pretty good, despite not being able to finish chances and being rusty/pressing. And in the next two games, it's almost like the team was like, welp, I guess that's that and they just figured wrote themselves off
- mcefalu

This. I just dont get it. They looked like they could be SC finalists if they played like that. Then 2 stinkers later.... I think the fact that they looked as good as they did for 2 periods showed some people that these players can play when they try... Now to get get them to try. 1 cost a guy his job. 2 send someone you just resigned to Calgary Hell.

Gustefsson and Read for Glencross, Guedreau, and 2nd.

The future?

OK -- then you're ready for a straight-up, Top 5 draft pick? You're truly ready for that kind of season?

Because if you bring up Manning/Konan/Lauridsen, that's where we're headed.

I'm fine with that, if that's the plan. But you can't have it both ways, where you kill players who have limitations...and replace them with players who have more limitations!

Who cares if he's played well? I swear sometimes you guys will defend something to a fault... The signing did nothing for the present or the future, he's a player they don't need and another contract they'll be looking to shed in two years while it eats up needed cap space to acquire a player they may actually need ... He's over the hill and and overpaid ... An all too familiar cliche with this team...

Gee, MJL! I see what you did there!

Did Peter Laviolette ask for a goal-scoring winger? No? Where's he at right now?

- AllInForFlyers

Berube's words echo the statements I made days ago in respons to your posts on why the Flyers don't score. And Berube nailed it to a "T". It's not because they need another Winger.

I'm fine with changing the pairings around. Because I don't like Streit with Schenn.

Its not even about that. Its finally, for once, time to realise they aren't a cup contender.

Its like Calgary or Toronto hanging on in mediocrity.

The majority of this D core wont be here when this team is ready to establish itself as a top team. With the coaching change its a transition into being more defensively aware.

Perfect chance to see what you have in these, apparently "promising" young d-men in the AHL. Unfortunately nobody will touch Streit with that contract but I'd have no issues with 2-3 of the current D being dealt.

Will they maybe lose a few more games but benefit in the long run? (gasp)

I think you may be expecting too much out of a 3rd pairing. They're not spposed to look spectacular, otherwise they wouldn't be the 3rd pairing. They did look pretty solid yesterday.

I wasn't in favor of signing Vinny or Streit, but for you to say that it did nothing for the PRESENT is wrong. The guy looks like a good #2 center.

That being said, I still don't think it was the right move for the team.

Their Stanley cup performance in game one earned them a loss and we are praising it as their best game. I think Toronto was tired early and that was most of the reason we looked good early. Then their true identity came out.

Thy being said I don't think they are as bad as they look. I think a solid 2 weeks will gives a good picture of how far or little this team has to go. I'm not sold on the roster just yet, but they are better than this.

Im finally ready for this team to realise they need to rebuild, instead of playing with mediocrity at the cost of staying "competitive".

I don't call it tanking, I call it an overdue rebuild, based on a solid identity.

I mean, maybe that is a testament to the players no longer responding to Lavy's system. Maybe they got to the point after the first game where they said to themselves, "Even when we bust our a$$, we still are struggling to score." Perhaps that's how the players made it clear they wanted a coaching change? We'll see how they respond.

Yeah, so clever that Michael Raffl's guaranteed to make the team and his sources are better than Darren Dreger's.
