I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think goaltending was the problem last year either.

It was a problem, but it was not a root-cause of the failure

I could've stopped that one.

What, an 82 goal pace isn't good?

- Scoob

Hahah yes. It's great in soccer.

Saying they have not been passionate enough and that they didn't have a good camp.
- Hextall271

Well, it's good that they brought in someone who wasn't at camp.

Oh, wait...

I hear ya. It shouldn't look like a chore for these guys to get a little passionate on the ice. I guess the hits have been there, but there's also a lack of focus. Guys who usually handle the puck well making glaringly poor passing attempts to no one. Would be great if Berube can snap them out of it.
- mcefalu

I know it's been said, but the passion and leadership that Pronger brought has been sorely missed.

That's a lot of hang time - players constantly leaving their feet to make a hit

I wouldn't take the delivery of cliches too literally... yeah, it's true, but I feel like those things are said in place of divulging specific X&O's and/or which players in the room need a kick in the pants/change of address.

I know you're right, and I acknowledge the point.

But it's maddening -- that freaking breakout has been horrific since New Jersey exposed it in the conference semifinals in 2011!

Take away Coughlin's two Super Bowls, and the guy has been a complete bum.
- PLindbergh31

Take away Scotty Bowman's Stanley Cups, his decision making skills, his wins, and his class, and he's a bum.

The goaltending was a small problem, however the Goaltender (Bryz) was a big one.

I didn't miss anything. I simply asked which two goals you were referring to. That's one.

Well, apparently Chief's one of the "smartest hockey guys" that Homer's ever known... so we'll soon find out whether that's on point, or whether it's because Homer confines his social circle to former Flyers players.

The scoring woes come from a complete inability to move the puck smartly up the ice, and part of that is poor player decision making and poor execution. At the same time, when you have the lack of puck support and a 25 foot gap between the defenseman with the puck and the nearest forward, it won't matter if the defenseman can make a great pass or not. Most of the time, the other team will camp out in the gap and eat the team alive.

Laviolette was a big part of the issues the Flyers had. I just hope now that the lack of effort and getting outworked on a nightly basis was the result of frustration on the part of the players, after banging their heads against the wall over and over and seeing no adjustments coming from the coach.

Also, just because Laviolette has been fired, there's no guarantee it will be the last move. It very likely is only the start of moves. It was needed and it was overdue. The team he coached played without discipline or passion and it has been going on for awhile, not just 3 games.

Why? Even after you were told by a poster that there was nothing to the Berube scuttlebutt?
- PLindbergh31

I hadn't been so informed at that point.

Now I'm torn. Does Dreger have sources? Did the Flyers think about firing Laviolette or just wake up this morning and do it? There's so much evidence that it's true but I've been reassured that it's not.
