Are the flyers considering?

No idea. But I've seen it a couple places on twitter.

Heard that the Flames offered him for Coburn
- Jsaquella

I'd do that. We need Coburn to be a shutdown Dman. So far this year I think Coburn has been arguably our worst defenseman defensively.

So now that we can't take a dump on Lavi's head anymore, it's on to Giroux? Really?

I swear to God, I can't believe what I'm reading right now.

Could be, but I don't know anything of this.
- BulliesPhan87

It just stuck out to me cuz it was so directly aimed at Holmgren. They could have named it for him...

Would you make that trade? Honestly, based on Coburn's recent play, I would definitely consider it

They need a true number one defenseman or at least a replacement for kimmo... I'm not sure streit is even that... Instead we got lecav nice player... Didn't need him ... Streit... Uh okay but is he gonna contribute for the life of the deal? Don't think so ... And firing lavy now? So we wasted a whole offseason ... I mean if lavy was on that short of a leash was it really worth going through camp and 3 games? These decisions are mind boggling to say the least...
- JoeRussomanno

I can't get that mad about the Lavi thing because I was in support of bringing him back. I don't think they anticipated the Flyers losing every game of preseason (Except a split squad shootout win) and losing all 3 openers.

The team also looked exactly like it did last year. Perhaps, worse.

I think sometimes we anticipate things will get better or players will bounce back. Most of the time that isn't the case. I don't think we will ever see Coburn be that steady top 4 guy again.

I think Mez is closer to Kurtis Foster than his former self at this point.

Then you replace Coburn with whom? Gus? Mez?

I don't think firing Laviolette now is so much mind boggling as it is the product of blatant indecision. He's on the shortest leash, but they want to give him a chance after the weird half season, but he's not adjusting to problems like they need him to, but it's not all his fault, etc.

I dunno, at this point take a deep breath.
Coach gone.
Let's see what kind of wake up call the players truly got. Let's see if the system does change. I give him a few games at least before we start weeding through players to toss...

It was merited. You can't beat NORWAY? I mean, maybe at a game like Kubb they're pretty good, but not at hockey.

Still think Coburn is of more value to us then trading him, Id rather see Grossman traded first.
- Buzzo

Depends if anything is coming back with Glencross. Nobody has mentionted that Gus might be on Calgary's radar if they are looking to get young.

What I don't understand though is that the first season game they actually looked pretty good, despite not being able to finish chances and being rusty/pressing. And in the next two games, it's almost like the team was like, welp, I guess that's that and they just figured wrote themselves off

I understand Coburn's limitations, but please, people: Let's think about what we're saying here.

Braydon Coburn can be traded...but we have to get another defenseman back who's better than everyone else we have.

We are already exposing Grossmann and Meszaros by having them on the third pair.

Mez looked better defensively last night than Coburn, and Gus deserves a roster spot. I don't think our defense would be worse off for it.

Quote from Berube (D Isaac article in CP):

"You want score more goals? Do your job without the puck," Berube said. "Put yourself in a position to defend and you’ll get turnovers and more opportunities the other way."

I like how that sounds. And I'm sure people here agrees since I've heard that same sentiment here quite a lot. At least it's a start.

- PhillySteen

Sounds familiar! Did he say they need to get another goal scoring Winger?

I wouldn't necessarily be against it, but Coburn is one of the guys I feel would benefit most from a new coach.

I think I'd seriously consider it, though, because they have a log jam on defense. But I worry with the injury histories of Grossmann and Meszaros

It's going to take more than a few games.

I think the effort will be there against the Panthers. I'm pretty sure the players heard this one loud and clear.

The only thing I feel good about right now is the new coach seems to understand they're playing NHL ice hockey... Not Chinese fire drill on ice

They weren't the worst team in hockey last year. They were the 9th seed and they added Streit and Vinny.

The assumption was that they'd be slightly better even if they kept the same pace as last year.

They look worse than last year though. At least last year, G and Voracek were scoring. This year, no one is scoring.

But didn't Giroux and Voracek struggle at the beginning last season too?

Gee, MJL! I see what you did there!

Did Peter Laviolette ask for a goal-scoring winger? No? Where's he at right now?
