Interesting. The Oilers hire Dallas Eakins who's only HC experience is in AHL and it's smart, the Flyers hire a guy who's only HC experience is in the AHL and it's idiotic?
- Jsaquella

Well, the Philadelphia Hypocrisy Standard is in full effect here -- if Ray Emery goes 17-1 and goes to any other team to compete for the starter's job, it's a great move by the GM to bring him in for one year.

Flyers do it, they have two backup goalies.

They value their dmen by the pound...
- Tomahawk

they need a top tier puck mover one way or another as you know. they can "get by" with this crew, but they are adequate at best...a poor mix.

Loyalty is a great trait to be known for. Remember he is the reason philly even has a team.
- Flyersgod

Yes, and they always go for it so I do love that aspect, but the change I'd make in philosophy would be to not always look internal for coaches etc. I know Lavy came from outside, but fresh eyes can help.

Schenn is 22.

If you're blaming Streit solely for that goal, you're incorrect. There was no coverage in front of the net, and Bolland was left all alone uncovered. Defense is a team game.
- MJL

It wasn't a Bogosian (or Schenn), but he put his teammates in a tough spot there by not being competitive in the corner and losing a 50/50 puck so quickly/easily. His teammates had no time to recover.

Berube on 590 fan stressing team play and team defense. SOunds like a defensive more reponsible system is on the way!

It was more like an 80/20 puck in his favor.

it was several years ago. brief stint. and he's a former flyer, enforcer to boot - that's why people would question it.

Neither are elite or top line players, nor will they magically turn into one.

Schenn has been so overhyped I have to wonder if it was just a brilliant marketing plan to increase his trade value.

- Flyersgod

They aren't expected to be elite players, and possibly not top line players. But they will be very good players.

Better start getting that paperwork to close off Broad Street in mid-June written up.

I don't like it because of the timing and my predisposition on Craig Berube. I'll never like the timing but I'll be open minded about our new coach.

So on which page was the Grossmann hit discussed?

Schenn was absolutely expected to be elite. He was touted as the "best player not in the NHL" for a year. Granted, his WJC got overhyped, but it was there.

Now that hes gone and i get excited about some fresh ideas coming to this team you are going to poop on my parade? Talk about a (frank)ing hypocrite

Having Chief and Homer glowering next to him like protective linemates probably had something to do with it, too.

He just talks to people, he doesn't know what the Flyers are thinking. is a coincidence, no?
- mayorofangrytown

After watching the press conference, I'm assuming that Berube has been groomed as the successor for some time.

Yeah.. I don't think they brought a lot of intelligent thought personally. At one point, Kypreos says, they haven't won since 74 and was corrected. The Maclean says has Berube been a HC anywhere, and he's informed yes at Adirondack. Then Maclean comes back to it after and says, he's only been coach of the Adk Phantoms.. if that's what they are called.. ?? WTF? Then they talked about how weird the culture is of always promoting guys with history with the org, and then it's pointed out the Oilers do things similarly.

I'd like to add that berube's hc experience is not as in depth as Eakins was in the ahl

To be fair they lauded the Emery pick up when it happened and now you're just talking about MacLean's opinion. He's the one who is always firing off with the inflammatory crap. He said that before Berube was on and the Tocchett/Murray stuff came up after he was off.

Schenn will be a good player when he asserts himself out there...right now hes a kid playing in a mans league. For some players it takes longer to get into that state of mind. The skills are there though.
