What? They can make or break a game easily...
- Talkshowhost

Exactly. That's my point. It's part of the game, so choosing to ignore them or shrug them off as meaningless in the outcome of games is absurd. Which, sadly, is what you're trying to do right now.

Yeah, JFJ was in a tough spot, to his credit. I'm just glad some fans don't get to pull the trigger on trades because after the Rask/Pogge thing I'd hate to see Reimer get ditched quickly and then Bernier struggle and/or get hurt...I'm digging have two promising goalies. Reimer will bounce back.
- Zezel

It is kind of funny to write Reimer off after one bad game considering he's had two pretty good half seasons. Early on Bernier does seem to have the edge in rebound control, glove hand, and puck handling though. Having two goalies like this is certainly not a bad thing.

I never said they were undeserved powerplays, I have no complaints about the officianting from last night.
- Talkshowhost

Then why are the Leafs not getting credit for having good special teams, and instead are being treated as inferior because of it?

You're really misunderstanding what I am saying. I'm saying Ottawa played well at evens, had they taken less penalties it would likely have been better for them. Toronto made them pay for taking penalties, and Ottawa's PK wasn't very good either.

They did have good special teams, they took tons of shots on their powerplays...

They mustn't have been all that good at even strength if they took so many penalties!

Ottawa didn't play that well at evens, which is what led to many penalties. I understand full well what you're trying to say, and what your agenda is. The same guys playing even strength are the same guys killing penalties. Either they were good, or they weren't, but breaking aspects of the game down to suit your needs at your convenience isn't going to fly.

They scored 4 times at even strenght. That's a strong performance. Would wouldn't want their team to score 4 times at 5v5?

Really? You don't see the value in trying to indentify where your team went wrong in a game?

Bozak's got the same amount of points as JVR and has scored a shootout goal yet he missed an open net so he sucks and JVR is great.

Umm...they lost the game. So I would say I, for one, would rather my team win than worry about 5 on 5 goals. Losing a game is not indicative of a strong performance.

I sure do, but Corsi stats isn't a measuring stick Im willing to use. Nor do I feel that making exuses is the way to go either.

You can play well and still lose a game. I thought the Sens played well in some areas, and poorly in others.

Everything is not black and white in hockey, it's a complex game.

Why? It's just tracking shot differential. More shots is good, means you have the puck more. Leafs ended up having the puck more overall, and won a hockey game. Why is it so useless?

Looking forward to signing all those guys, this is who I see being moved out.

Reimer
Kulimen
Gunnarson
Gardiner

- faceto27

Hmmmm

Gunner-signed for 3 seasons, a main stay, not going anywhere.

Kule- RC loves this guy. Leafs will do everything within reason to keep him. Expect him to be re-signed by TO.

Gardiner- for him not to remain a Leaf in the future, both of these MUST occur A) Reilly develops really well with the Leafs & makes Gardiner expendable & B) Nonis can get fair value in a trade for Gardiner, which would be a good young player that Nonis really likes.

It's not that complex. Outscore your opponent and you win. Pretty simple really.

To be fair, it is based on 3 games. But, it is also based on how close you were to beating Boston last year and how well everybody is playing.
- willschulme

I strongly believe Nonis had one model in mind: Build a team that can beat the Bruins consistently. Dominate the Bruins and the rest of the East shouldn't be a problem.
We'll see how his model works out this season.

Leafs look good so far.

you're not going to get these guys to buy into advanced stats until the Leafs have a decent sample size of good stats.

lol, debunked? You have to provide counter evidence to debunk something, not just say " uh, I don't care for those things"

It's not how it works for me. It's how it works in sports. Win or lose. Simple as that.
