Coincidence that we go more North American and start winning? Maybe Cherry was right all along?

I can't believe he hasn't talked about it on Coaches Corner yet.

Although he is tad overpaid for providing that

Agreed ...but that's what comes with spending in UFA.

Well personally I don't believe any player is untouchable, the big difference here is we have no offensive center prospects coming up, Gauthier is really the only one that looks like a solid center prospect at all. So unless we're getting a top center for Kadri at a similar cap hit it looks like he's a keeper.

Gards has Rielly right behind him who plays a similar game but might be an even better skater

If we are tight against the cap i could see a Gardiner trade, we wont be giving him away either, he'll fetch a solid return. I don't see the leafs letting Phaneuf go for nothing, and I like Franson more than Gardiner right now.

exactly... with younger players on cheaper contracts pushing up from below.. it's time to pick and choose who stays and who goes... burke set up for this.. now it's time to see what nonis does.

They don't make moves based on fan response.

The important question is: Where we a good Corsi team last night?
- Feeling Glucky?

Overall yes.
At even strenght: no

Which isn't really surprising, since the Leafs has lots of powerplays, scoring 2 powerplay goals. And they gave up 4 even strenght goals.

Bolland's looking really good so far. 1. Contract year. 2. His back might finally be healthy

i get the feeling that kuli is more after a cup then he is after money.. if he wanted the big pay day he would be playing in the khl. why would he leave now that the team has made the playoffs.
- derm10

No other russians on the team has to play into his head a bit... I kind of worry that because we are so heavy on North American's now we might alienate the euros.

Hope I'm wrong.

Eakins should give the media back their donuts or things are going to get real ugly.

Hopefully this will end his experiments with players out of position and spread out.

He's a smarter hockey man than probably everyone on this website. He just wasn't a good GM in the situation he was in.

I understand what you're saying though lol.

He wasn't being serious. He was making fun of people who care way too much for advanced stats.

There's alot to be said for just watching the game.

Hmmm.....the math doesn't add up. Most of the game is played at even strength...

That said, he was making fun of the stat. A meaningless and imperfect stat, at the best of times.

They are useful to look at, helps break down things. Sens were good at even strenght last night, scored 4 goals. Who would argue that?

And the Leafs capitalized on their powerplays and won the game in a shootout.

Corsi numbers reflect what you watch.

Anything that helps people understand the strenght/weaknesses of their hockey team is valuable, IMO.

I agree, just outlaw it completely IMO and that gets rid of the grey area. Or get rid of the shootout all together and just go OT till we find a winner.
- TheLeafsInsider

I thought they made it legal as long as the player and puck continue to move forward. Raymond clearly did not. He came to virtually a full stop and the puck moved backwards. I wish they would just clear it up. Take any questions out of it.

Yeah, JFJ was in a tough spot, to his credit. I'm just glad some fans don't get to pull the trigger on trades because after the Rask/Pogge thing I'd hate to see Reimer get ditched quickly and then Bernier struggle and/or get hurt...I'm digging have two promising goalies. Reimer will bounce back.

You get a lot of shot attempts when you have 7 powerplays.

The game is played or won/lost that way. Point is the Senators weren't good enough to win the game, and alienating powerplays and penalty kills is quite a stupid way of looking at a hockey game.

Without reading Yost's blog, I'm confident he has stats to prove Ottawa really won the game.

You also get a lot of powerplays when the other team can't contain you and have to resort to hooks, trips etc to make up for their mistakes and short cummings.

I never said they were undeserved powerplays, I have no complaints about the officianting from last night.
