Anybody we lose, we lose as a UFA. This team won't be sellers at the deadline. That said, as much as Carlyle might like Kulemin, he will love Bolland twice as much. If we have to shed salary, it will be by losing guys like Kulemin and not our top 6 players. Sad reality, but it's how it goes.

Only way I see Kulemin staying is if he signs for 3M or less per, but I don't know how much he wants to stick around in 3rd line role here when he could cash in as a UFA and play with other countrymen.

Speaking of that, wow, when did we get so North American? How many Europeans or Russians do we have on the active roster now, two? Prospects? Granberg? Minors? Holzer?

Good morning, my Leafy friends.

Weird game. Didn't think we would come back from 4-2.

And I don't think that spinorama should be allowed on a penalty shot or shootout.

My two cents.

My thoughts as well. Loved the W..

I agree, just outlaw it completely IMO and that gets rid of the grey area. Or get rid of the shootout all together and just go OT till we find a winner.

Coincidence that we go more North American and start winning? Maybe Cherry was right all along?

He has always been a power skater with a decent top gear. I think he's just getting bigger, stronger, and more confident. Hell, even Kessel looks like he's not afraid of everything anymore.

Fellas, if the D gets tight, we will be a hard team to play against, and we are geared for the playoffs,, I love the way this team is looking.

If it was later in the year I'd be more jacked into the Toronto - Anaheim rumors of a Dman coming down there.

Because it would make sense to me for them to like Gunnar at his cost, term and age. As well as for us to want to get something useful back, well - we'll have to give. I'd gladly take one of Anaheims young prospects if the deal was right.

This is a bit of a turn for me because I've been steadfast I don't think they will move Gunnar....but it we want to get better we have to move someone. I'm just hoping that someone isn't Gardiner.

- Canadian kid

gardiner is expendable with all the puck movers the leafs have. the key is to get him playing well so u can get top dollar for him in a trade.

A couple of times the Leafs were floundering in their own end and Kessel won a puck battle to clear it. Kadri I thought was also noticeable in getting all the way back to play defense as well.

Hmmm interesting point. And since we have such balanced scoring now, I guess that makes Kadri expendable.

The important question is: Where we a good Corsi team last night?

this time yes, which is funny considering how awful they were most of the game defensively

Bozak's got the same amount of points as JVR and has scored a shootout goal yet he missed an open net so he sucks and JVR is great.

i get the feeling that kuli is more after a cup then he is after money.. if he wanted the big pay day he would be playing in the khl. why would he leave now that the team has made the playoffs.

no but unless he plays a regular role in the top 4 he has to go.. they can't give him much of a raise to play in the 3rd pairing...... i'm in the dion camp... so it's pay gardiner or pay dion... i pick dion

Yep, it's kind of like people saying hopefully we don't have to see Reimer again for a while now that Bernier is the clear number one....after Reimer had a top ten sv% last year and one of the best sv% in Leafs history....it's this kind of irrational exuberance/morbid pessimism that trades Rask for Raycroft instead of waiting and letting two guys play for a while

He's totally only missed one open net chance.

And you say we focus on stats too much.

That's good to know..

I questioned whether that hiring was kind of a gimmick at first but boy was I wrong. The skating improvement were seeing in the guys who worked with her is quite remarkable.

Happy to have been very incorrect.

Well personally I don't believe any player is untouchable, the big difference here is we have no offensive center prospects coming up, Gauthier is really the only one that looks like a solid center prospect at all. So unless we're getting a top center for Kadri at a similar cap hit it looks like he's a keeper.

Gards has Rielly right behind him who plays a similar game but might be an even better skater

If we are tight against the cap i could see a Gardiner trade, we wont be giving him away either, he'll fetch a solid return. I don't see the leafs letting Phaneuf go for nothing, and I like Franson more than Gardiner right now.

Yeah unfortunately I don't think you can have both Kuli and Bolland making 3 3.5 per year.

Bolland's looking really good so far. 1. Contract year. 2. His back might finally be healthy
