It was heading that way for sure.
The Flyers have looked awful so far this year.
The thing is, I am not so sure that they can turn it around. I just don't think they have the talent.

How about drafting a solid defenseman with all those high picks? Did they ready need Yakupov? - bloatedmosquito
Yes. Because now you can trade either him or Eberle for a great defenseman

I was at a wedding on Saturday night.
How was the game? I only caught the game in 6. Was Reimer bad or was he hung out by the D? |

I certainly don't think they will make the playoffs. Last year people said that Philly, Buff and N.J will be much better this year. I just don't think they are very good. It's weird seeing teams that make the playoffs suddenly not make them but people overrate Philly for sure. Same with NYR. Wouldn't be suprised to see them not make it |

bit of both
The D was bad, Reimer didn't bail them out.
Bernier did, although the D did tighten up a bit after Bernier came in.

I think NYR will make it, but I am with you there also. That team is way overrated by some people.

It's just awful tough to not take the big elite forward with that first overall pick, it's such a rare commodity I don't think Edmonton could turn it down even if they need a defenseman |

I agree.
Part of the problem they are having right now is that the kids don't yet have a ton of value, except maybe Hall.
They just not proven very much.
Ideally, you draft the best player available, he becomes a star... and you can flip him for a Shattenkirk or Pietrangelo type.
None of the kids right now can garner that kind of return. |

I would say he is dead, but despite the win in MTL, he's the "B" of the 1 A/B tandem firmly in my mind.
The composure, confidence, rebound control and stick-handling of Bernier is plainly obvious. - gravyface
Oh for sure.

But playing within the Oiler's system could diminish a player's trade value. I wonder if the 1st overall pick is more valuable on draft day or a few years after the draft (see Daigle).
Draft day hype is magical... |

remember how amazing Seguin was?
Or anyone remember how tank and draft was the only way to build a winner? |

And devane.
They sent devane and abbot down after the sens game. The recall basically puts them back to the same position they were in on Saturday. Ashton was a late scratch. |

I just don't get this firing in Philly........ seriously after 3 games you fire him??
If you didn't have faith in him then the move should have been done in the off season. Doing it 3 games into the season makes no sense.
Won't be long before Holmgren is gone........... He should have been gone first.

As I said above, you take a risk drafting a player 1st overall and then holding that asset just to trade at a later date. |
