Your brother doesnt watch canucks hockey then... - RF_4eva
That is clearly Bull. Raymond will excite.... great on the Shoot Out, and by extension Breakaways and Penalty Shots. But he is streaky. Look at his first 15 games in any Canuck season and you will see, other than his 25 goal year, up to 40% of his points came in that 15 games. After that he fades and has more games without a shot, hit or anything constructive than not.
Enjoy him, I would agree that Vancouver fans want to see him succeed and have a special place in their hearts for a guy who broke his back in the finals... but you would be very hard pressed to find a fan who wanted him to stay. |

I just looked at his 09/10 season and he had 4 points in his first 15 games. He ended up with 53 points that year. He faded in the last 10 games or so, but that's about all. Im not saying...im just saying. After your theory was debunked on my first attempt, I didn't bother with other seasons.
That said, he's a third liner, and if you guys used him properly reaction to him leaving might have been different. You can't expect much consistency and ppg paces from third line players. |

Because in baseball it works. It's logical. It's not the case in hockey. in baseball everyone was so into HR and power stats and RBI's ect that they overlooked OB% and the like. There is no such correlation in hockey.
taking a shot isnt indicative of possession. - burn
completely agree.
the absolute best example of the uselessness of the "possession stat" in hockey is the one and only Jason Blake.
he probably had higher possession time than 90-95% of the forwards in the league, and also as likely that he took more shots than 90-95% of the forwards in the league.
out of those 300+ shots per year (average guestimate over 80+ games)... how many goals did he score, and how many of his shots really should just have counted as turnovers?

Leafs should actually get one of their prospects to change his name to
Fenwick Wendell Di Corsi.

what's not being said clearly if at all.. particularly in the Canuck threads is why Raymond wasn't even offered a contract by the Canucks.
really could only be for one of two reasons (and I believe its the second)
1) they no longer wanted the player on their roster
2) they knew they couldn't offer him a 2-3million per year due to the genius of Mr. Gillis' cap management... and so they didn't.
I find it quite interesting and entertaining how through the Canuck threads they repeatedly talk about if they had just signed "this player" or "that player"... which they couldn't ... the only guys they did sign were all 1M or less per year types..
which again speaks volumes about how screwed their CAP situation is - and clearly their owners had no appetite to buyout anyone beyond Ballard.

Sure, he's a bargain at 1m.... But not at 2.5m like we were paying.
He's a great penalty killer, and 3rd line checker. Looks like he's found chemistry with Bolland... Funny considering he hated him on the Hawks. - dshiddy
A great penalty and 3rd line checker who can score once in a while is worth 2.5 million in today's NHL.
