It's a proxy for possession, you have to have the puck to shoot it. - Talkshowhost
Corsi would say the Krutov - Larionov - Makarov line was weak in terms of possession.
Would you say that's an accurate evaluation, based on what we know about their game? |

They had Jason Blake as one of Toronto's best player when he was here...
all those shots directly at the goalie. What a beast. |

Fair enough. I foresee him proving it shortly though - Dozzer
Bernier is already the #1 in my book. His fight, his ability to win a shoot out and he's French. They make good goalies to go along with their poutine. |

Bozak missed about 3 really good chances; guy lacks finish, but he's a useful cog on that line (took a hit to make a play that ended up being JVR's goal). - gravyface
The anti-Bozak's can say what they want about him. The facts are the facts. The Bozak/Kessel/JVR line is a proven established line that works, BOTTON LINE! The Grabbo/MacArthur/Kule line had one sucessful season together but could never sustain it. That's why Grabbo is in Was & Mac is in Ott. |

Fenwick and Corsi also don't take into account the fact that the Leafs are probably a top 5 team at scoring off the rush. They truly aren't a great possession team but their scoring numbers are likely sustainable as is their goaltending & PK. - daeth
How do you even begin to determine that though? Watch all 30 teams? |

Yeah but the public data collected does show a strong correlation with winning. It's not perfect, and of course statistics need context but I can't beleive people don't think getting more shots than your opponent is a key to winning. - Talkshowhost
Team A = 40 shots from the perimeter
Team B = 20 shots from the slot
Does this mean Team A is twice as likely to win the game? |

Also he would never pass the puck and if he couldn't break through the red line he would skate in a circle back to his own end...POSSESSION! |

Based on the fact that they score most of their goals off the rush and have been a top 10 scoring team over the last couple seasons?

You're missing the point. They won the shootout by scoring more goals in the shootout, which the league counts and awards an extra point for.
You don't need to count it, like it, watch it or believe in it. You still have to outscore your opponent in a shootout to win. You don't actually win it by getting more shots on net, despite it's name. |

Who? - Talkshowhost
The old, famous, KLM line.
I used them as an example, since those Canada Russia clashes were where we first ran into teams that held onto the puck for higher percentage shots. Back in the day, people would say the Russians were lucky they had good goaltending, otherwise our considerable shot total advantage would lead to us routing them. Even then, I knew different. |
