Every team in the league is told to block shots. You're taught that at a young age. It's the most overblown thing I've ever seen. It's embarrassing. The media are idiots.
- Boinker

There's a difference between blocking the occasional shot and implementing an entire system designed to collapse around the goalie. I could understand doing that if you're goalie stinks but Torts has been running this system in front of Lundquist and now Luongo.

I think Lundqvist has indicated previously that, although he thought the shot-blocking/collapse system was a good one (what else is he gonna say, though), he did mention the problem with seeing through screens and being able to track the puck properly.

(I think Luongo said the same thing just recently)

Fosco / DCT / DShiddy - Two cerebral players and a sh!t disturber
RFA4Eva / Nucker101 / DK - speedy but awkward, non-playmaking C and a brute
VANTEL / Bieksa#3 / Annoyance - no explanation needed really, nastiest line in hockey

Bloated / ChestRockwell - did he really make that drop pass and the shot blocker
Vancity787 / KB3P0 - solid third pairing with the bomb from the point.
Ser Hog - chomping at the bit to get in the game, but donkey love is holding him back.

Docmorgan - wily veteran

Burrows got hurt on the 5 on 3 PK, if he doesn't block those lanes the game is over in the second. Just because they went on to lose in the end doesn't justify playing like crap early on. If he had gotten hurt in the last minute of play on the PK, already down 4-1 I could understand a little (everyone always talks about playing hard for a full 60, so he should still be blocking shots even then).

EDIT - I just looked up man games lost due to injury, in 2010/11 the rangers ranked 9th, in 2011/12 they were 17th and in 2012/13 they were 27th. The Canucks finished higher (more injuries) in two of those years (11/12 & 12/13). I don't think it's Tortarella's system that keeps Canucks on the IR.

Yeah I did read that from Luongo. If you watch him closely you can clearly see him rocking his head from side to side trying to get a view of the puck.

If we have injury problems as it is, you don't think implementing a shot blocking system will make it worse?

Not really, the shots they are trying to block are mostly from down low from opposing forwards. The bombs from the point are usually taken head on in a shin pad or deflected into the stands by a stick. I'm not saying those other shots don't or can't hurt, just that they tend not to be a big clapper.

If a trend develops and they are losing a player every week with a broken foot or whatnot I'll change my tune, but for now I'm convinced that its not a system thing.

Coincidence. The Canucks blocked more shots than the rangers last year. Chill
- vancity787

Canucks were 3rd last in shots blocked. Rangers were 2nd in shots blocked.

Does anyone remember what Kyle Turris got traded for. Would have loved to see him on the nucks considering he is a local boy.

He's scored a few goals already but they'll quickly change their tune once he levels out and goes back to figure skating in circles.

How good would Turris look on our top 6 right now. CBC said that since the trade he leads the sens in goals with 18 (12 in Regular season and 6 in playoffs.)

Well... that Burrows news kinda sucks. Do we know for sure it was a blocked shot or are we jumping to assumptions.

Yep, he'd be a great addition. That trade is looking especially good now with Runblad's career not panning out as planned.

Last game line:

0 Shots
0 Shots at Goal
0 Shots Blocked
0 Penalties
0 Goals
0 Assists
0 Hits
10:15 Ice time.

Funny enough.... these were my stats as well and I had 10:15 less ice time than he

That's the Mason Raymond we know and love. If it was not for him breaking his back against Boston, he would have been rode out of town much earlier but I strongly feel that the town and organization owed him another chance.

Only player in NHL history to be taken to arbitration by the team and lose money.... correct? They felt he was overpaid.

Mason will play 1 good game in 12... just enough to keep Toronto from saying he is not a bust but secretly understand that his productivity is very poor.
