Hartnell said as soon as he got to Montreal he saw a huge billboard of Briere. Can't get away from him, he kidded.

Damn I miss him

Despite being a top 5 pick in his draft class, Schenn did not become a full-time NHL player until he was 20. He also has played 47 AHL games over parts of three seasons. That is actually a longer gestation/development cycle than the majority of his peer forwards who have gone on to be significant impact players in the NHL.

I don't measure readiness by the length of time other players have played in the minors. I measure it by the individual player.

He was a point a game player over a 33 game stint with the Phantoms which may have suggested he might have been ready, but has not been producing while here. Not to say he won't live up to his incredible hype some day, he hasn't looked comfortable at any position since he's been up with the Flyers.

Is he a first line winger, a third line center/winger, a power forward, a defensive forward...? What's his role? Where is he best suited to play?

Perhaps "rushed" may have been too strong a word, but watching him play over the last 2 years, I'm still not convinced he was ready. To wait for him to develop while playing at the major league level may be a smart move according to some, I feel he would have been better served if he spent more time on the Phantoms where it could've been determined what type of player he truly was and at what position he would best be served to utilize his strengths.

Though I'll be patient like everyone else. And like everyone else. I hope he has a breakout season.

I agree, and B Schenn looked real good in game 1. Although I can't say I want him to remain on the top line in place of Voracek. I still feel the only reason that is, is because Voracek is still a little banged up.

I look for the continuation of the improved systems play from last year. More pucks at the net, with a better net presence. And clean up the individual coverage mistakes and turnovers made in game 1. Do that, and the Flyers will be a tough beat.

- MJL

i agree with that top part, and i think that IF (which i don't anticipate) schenn earns himself a spot on the top line it shouldn't be in jake's spot

a hartnell-vinny-read 2nd line could work very well

I believe The Fan is a Toronto based radio station, though. What you say is true about stations around Philly, though. The only time you'll hear Flyers on the radio is when the Phillies are done and the Eagles news front is a dead zone. I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if someone were to prove that The Fan 590 in Toronto talks more about the Flyers than any station in this area.
- JAKEw1234

As a daily streamer of 590 at work and a resident of the Philly area I can guarantee you that Flyers talk in Toronto is far more prevalent than on the air waves in Philly. They have Flyers related guests on regularly. Tocchet, Coates, Carchidi, Severalli, Panaccio, Therien and a host of players and staff.

It's embarrassing when you consider how we are almost annually the most successful sports team out of the big 4.

i hear ya man, he definitely hasn't established himself as that point-per-game bona fide first line guy yet. i just don't know if that's a result of getting called up prematurely

and i think he's a legit top nine guy, borderline top-six who's shown potential to be much better. i'd personally qualify that as ready, as i'd rather see him try and blossom into that top-line type guy up here with the big club. particularly considering it's not like we're overflowing with top nine talent without players like him. but i certainly understand the other (keep him down as long as possible, bridge the gap with vet FAs) view

Does that mean that any Forward that comes into the League, if he doesn't put up solid point totals right away, it means that he wasn't ready? You don't leave a player like Schenn who was a high draft pick, and a highly regarded player in the AHL to determine what kind of player he is, or what position he fits best. That can be done at the NHL level. Especially when he showed in his short time in the AHL for the Phantoms during the lockout, that he was clearly a player that doesn't belong there, and belongs in the NHL. All players develop in the NHL. The only way to avoid that is to overcook a player in the AHL, and only bring him up when he's in his absolute prime. Even Claude Giroux developed his game a lot in the NHL.

First, first?...

Started out so well in game 1, gotta capitalize on the PP's.

I expect Dany Boy to score, that should be a given. Hopefully Vinny one up's him and the Habs can find another frenchie to hate becuz he snubbed them and came to Philly.

Watching Stolarz, he reminds me of Pekka Rinne, hopefully he turns out as good as him

If you watched his Phantoms games last season, he looked incredibly bored. Several people within the organization believed he developed bad habits because the game came a lot easier to him in the minors.

debatable. can't say that i'd qualify more attention from the general masses/sports talk radio as "better"

the flyers have a solid fan base and do fine financially. i'd prefer things stay the way they are. i know that sounds snobbish, but it is what it is

I love hartnell but hate the fact that he is cemented into the first line role. I like him there some nights but wouldn't mind if he would go to the second at times. Not really a big deal I love hartnell

but agreed about the whole instagram thing. i hope the flyers just keep helping those guys make total asses of themselves

TNT is so much better than Doop, but is not better than Bro Hymn.

Speaking of goal horns, did you hear Devils fans boo the new Bon Jovi song that is the Devils new goal song?
