Emery gets the loss tonight but did well enough to deserve a closer game. Philly's team D was at fault, missed assignments, often on the outside instead of between the puck and the net. Blame the goalie but to me the team in front got caught up watching as much as not.

Sadly, we've seen the same show for the last two or three years

No way they play 10+ more games like this one before some sort of trigger is pulled, almost certainly in the coaching department.

If they lose tomorrow night, they are going to need to go on a nice little winning streak to help secure Lavi's job. No more win 1, lose 3...

I think If they score 1 or less tomorrow night Lavi might be gone after the game.

I'd mark October 18th on your calendar. The Flyers 8th game of the year is Oct 17th vs Pittsburgh. They have the next 6 days off. If they're still looking like they did tonight, it's a nice logical time for a relieving of duties

I wouldn't be surprised. They still look like they're in training camp. And either this team is pretty bad, or they are being mismanaged... At least so far.

Not sure what the answer is, shabby D needs something. Odds are Owner will pull a trigger sooner than later.

Combined with last season, terrible preseason, I wouldn't be shocked to see Lavy canned after 5 games....Heck I wouldn't be shocked to see him fired tomorrow morning.

Is Hertl playing with Talbot and Rinaldo? Nope. He's been playing with Thornton and Burns
- Jsaquella

This is the kind of poop that I think would change with a new coach. And I think it'd point this team in the right direction.

Just sayin.

They don;t have the mobility or passing ability that the coach's preferred style demands, but they make few adjustments. They get murdered by teams that trap well and have a strong forecheck.

Last couple years vs the Devils, Rangers and Lightning, they're 9-23-1. A good, disciplined team can beat them 80% of the time, just by feeding off the Flyers mistakes.

Its just sloppy.. Sick and tired of seeing shots constantly being deflected or blocked away from the net. They need to start getting cleaner looks at the net. I think this D is not going to be any better than it was last season from what I have seen so far. The most expensive D in the league... What a joke lol

As for Lavy, I would give him until the 18th of October after the Pens game. If things haven't improved I think he gets canned. If the season doesn't turn around, than I think Homer is going to be the one getting the boot at the end of the year. I think Lavy's message is not getting across anymore. Sick of seeing undisciplined hockey from these guys. 9 Penalties is absurd.

The forwards don't seem particularly good, or disciplined with the puck while trying to break out of their own zone. Hell, they had problems getting through the neutral zone while up a man tonight...

I wonder if they'd consider moving G to the wing and putting Vinny at center on the top line? Makes Schenn the 2nd line Center...

In theory G should get some more space at the wing and playing with a big center.

Nope, it's another area of concern. Just staggering lack of discipline from the forwards back. Passing, playing defense, gap control, coverage errors...it's maddening how undisciplined the team plays

AGREED. I think the Flyers need to bring in a coach that plays a balanced style but still brings the Flyers toughness that we are used to seeing.

vinny could play wing too. if they think schenn doesn't fit, there are teams that are looking for a guy who projects as a #2 center, so...i think he will develop if given a chance, but...

True, but given our inability to score I think you've got to get your best player in position to produce. Vinny is big, wins faceoffs and can create space for G to focus on offense, which we really need him to do right now.

Championships are won with defense. We've been cheaping out on it. Time to change it up. Pull the assets out and pay the price, Homer. I'd rather have a more mediocre offense with a superior defense than whatever this is.
- JAKEw1234

How the (frank) is the team with the highest payroll on defense "cheaping out?" For crying out loud.

G is out there trying to do it all himself the play that led to the 4th goal tonight was him trying to make something out of nothing.... some one said ealrlier that they should take the "C" off him...i hate to say it but i agree let him play hockey

G tends to disappear sometimes at C, even more so @ wing, but i'm ready to put him on the blue line if it would end this repeated nightmare.

Put him on a line with Vinny and Hartnell.Schenn centers Voracek, Coots centers Read. No excuses for those lines not producing points.

Cheaping out was the wrong term. "Cutting corners" is more appropriate. We have a refusal to draft and develop top-end defensive talent, and a refusal to acquire it through trade (due to being afraid of the asset cost). We have a tendency to sign older guys off of free agency, or acquire more mediocre talent through trade and hope it will solve everything. We either need to adjust the system, or stop cutting corners with our defense.
