This team is a fail so far. Just not a very fun team to watch.

If the defenseman has the puck in the Flyers defensive zone, and the nearest forward is stationary at the other team's blue line, I'm not sure how that's the defense's fault.

You have to adjust to what your team can do.

Jsaq, I know we may differ here.

However this D-core is the most expensive in the NHL. Filled with too much mediocrity, lacking speed, and actual complete talent.

Its my firm belief they are going nowhere are a club unless they improve it in terms of quality. Change the system, the coach, whatever the hell you want. Yet paying them as much as they are, for what they can provide is horrific.

That was me, and I endorse every single word of this point.

They're killing Sean Couturier by inches -- Maxime Talbot's a fourth-liner, folks. I'm sorry. But that's what he is.

- AllInForFlyers

and a good one at that. I like Talbot.

Now if I may....

It wasn't much of a factor in the first game, but this game, when you're shorthanded 10 times (once was a 5-3) it's hard to establish any sort of rhythm.

I would say have of those penalties a case could be made for

Now I am just angry.

Something drastic needs to be done and right effing now.

Championships are won with defense. We've been cheaping out on it. Time to change it up. Pull the assets out and pay the price, Homer. I'd rather have a more mediocre offense with a superior defense than whatever this is.

It's not a crime to be a very good fourth-liner -- I said that the other day, and meant it. A line of Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo, with Hall and Talbot as a PK unit, would be exceptional.

But offensive plays die on Maxime Talbot's stick. He's not goal-scorer, and he's not a playmaker, and he does not have the skill to either score or set up Sean Couturier or his linemates.

That's just reality.

2 goals in 2 games..
7 goals allowed..
Top line players have not showed up for a game yet.
8 trillion penalties against.
As always seems to be the case over the past few Rinaldo the only player that seems to put out max effort when he is there.

On the positive side...Mezaros has not gotten hurt yet.

The problem is, Laviolette has a tractor, and he's trying to drag race it against a Corvette.

I know the defense is flawed. I get that. It is too expensive, and a lot of that is from scrambling after losing Pronger.

But if the coach would simply adopt a style of play that could fit what the defense is capable of doing, they wouldn't look half as bad as they do and the results would be better.

I think the glaring thing we can all take away from this, is that while we may all have our own gripe with them at this time... Be it coaching, systems, the D, offense, whatever...

It should be an indication that there is no quick fix, and its a mix of issues.

The fact of the matter is that the team went bargain bin shopping on goalie instead of making the move for Bernier. They have 5 defenseman who can't play defense and one who can barely skate after game 20. Couterier and B Schenn in the last two years have proven to be barely more then serviceable in the NHL and that's being polite. The rest of the team is extremely streaky. Factor in the head coach wants them to play a style they aren't capable of and their assistant coach didn't do anything but fight. Yeah, I'd say this team is (frank)ed.
- Flyers1218

I haven't seen the goaltending as a problem this year. How could have Bernier have helped unless he could've pitched two SO's.

You need to score more than one on most nights to win in this league

The thing is, he has paid for it. Or is currently.

More than any other GM In the league. Thats a joke if you look at what they provide.

Holmgren chronically overvalues talent, and pays stupid money to employ it.

It's not even two real goals -- they're both on the PP, set up and scored by the one forward who wasn't on the roster last year.

Giroux, Voraceck, Lecavalier on the forward lines, Timonen and Streit on defense.

I wouldn't move Couturier, but I'd listen on him and everybody else.

Or Tampa Bay, who had 3 shots in 2 periods against Chicago tonight.
