which young talent is overrated>?
- nastyflyergirl

Which is a little bit of my question also.

Where is the young talent on defense? Luke Schenn is what he is, and to a degree there is nothing wrong with that.

In terms of forwards the young talent is what? Coots and Schenn?

The rest are essentially what they are imo.

I said sometime in Cooturier's first season that it might be just as likely to develop into a Handzus type of player.

There is nothing wrong with having a really solid shutdown 3rd line center, but Coots has shown me essentially nothing to say he has offensive talent to translate into the NHL.

Not ripping but the kid is 20. an argument could be made that this should be his first season. Even Carter, Richards and Giroux stayed in juniors through the age 20. and JVR with college. this is exactly what I mean, fans want patience with the kids (me included) but are quick to judge.

He really hasn't been given many opportunities to play an offensive game either.

Its getting to the point where its getting really hard to justify keeping all fowards together when the D is so poor and so overpaid. And before anyone jumps in to rip me for the team being dealt the hand of the Pronger injury I'll remind you this is one of the highest paid D groups even removing the Pronger contract from the equation.

I think 10Schenn is, personally
- JAKEw1234

i think it will take him longer to develop on wing. not a big shooter...plays better w/ the puck on his stick.

I am not saying to trade Coots. Even if he does end up purely as say a Handzus type of player there is nothing wrong with that.

Although it may be a little too optimistic to expect him to be a real big point producer. Even with who he has played with, he hasnt shown much in terms of offensive ability.

Again. Nothing wrong with that, but expecting a lot out of the kid, when really it may never happen... Which at this point, call it a negative outlook or whatever. Is what Im seeing, and have been ever since the Pittsburgh playoff round.

We have plenty of talent, we just can't finish. On paper we're one of the deepest top 9s in the league. Right now we're not showing it.

also, what a save by Razor

See the thing to me is, they have issues with teams that play well defensively.

In terms of scoring at least. More so teams that collapse down low.

Its just one of the issues though. Breakout, stupid penalties. It can go on and on. Although the penalties to a degree are because the defense gets caught and lacks foot speed.
