i'm not so sure i agree with that. although of course it's possible and this year will go a long way towards showing how ready he is, i believe that he is ready to be a solid contributor. and a lot of times a player will have to go through those growing pains with the big club in order to get there
- FlyerMike18

I agree, and B Schenn looked real good in game 1. Although I can't say I want him to remain on the top line in place of Voracek. I still feel the only reason that is, is because Voracek is still a little banged up.

I look for the continuation of the improved systems play from last year. More pucks at the net, with a better net presence. And clean up the individual coverage mistakes and turnovers made in game 1. Do that, and the Flyers will be a tough beat.

The Eagles should be able to win, the Giants are one of the few teams out there that actually looks significantly worse than the Birds!

I think the Flyers come out playing hard and physical, score a couple early and hold on for a 5-2 win

If the Flyers come out and play the way they did in game 1, but actually win, I will feel very good about this team moving forward.

5 Keys for a win in Montreal

1. Come out with the same energy they showed in the first period against Toronto

2. Do a better job crashing the net and jumping on rebounds

3. Play physical, Montreal is generally a small team, especially up front

4. Win the special teams battle

5. Score a goal or 2 early, take the crowd out of the game.

- BiggE

sounds like a plan

That just doesn't work for me at all.

Brayden is the classic example of rushing a player. He would've benefited greatly from a little more seasoning in the minors.

- 77rams

By all accounts, he was ready for the NHL. He dominated the AHL. He scored more than a Point per game despite having very little skill to play with.

I agree, every player develops at his own pace. He has yet to play a full NHL Season. And in terms of NHL games played, he is still in his 2nd NHL Season. Seems to be a lack of patience among some of the fans.

I believe Laviolette was quoted in saying Voracek was on the 3rd line to spread the offensive wealth, and it had nothing to do with his preseason injury.

As Bill has stated many times, the growth of players isn't a direct line. There are peaks and valleys. Schenn has shown to be a good player at times and has struggled.

I think Schenn does need to determine what type of player he wants to be. He needs to find an identity. In Juniors, people said he was a very good two-way center with a great playmaking ability. In the NHL, he's looked like a strictly offensive forward who can crash the net, drop the gloves and score some goals. He hasn't really shown an adept playmaking touch.

Lavi quoted as saying it was a combination of both trying to spread offense and trying to limit Jakes minutes coming off the injury.

Despite being a top 5 pick in his draft class, Schenn did not become a full-time NHL player until he was 20. He also has played 47 AHL games over parts of three seasons. That is actually a longer gestation/development cycle than the majority of his peer forwards who have gone on to be significant impact players in the NHL.

how do you hold on for a 5 - 2 win?

but, yeah ... the Flyers need to come out playing hard. And keep playing hard. If they do that I think they'll get a nice, solid win tonight.

And it Laviolette also mentioned the injury was a factor in other interviews a few days ago.

No, and that's why I feel he can be a better Winger then Center in the NHL. He's a North/South player who can play in the corners and around the net. Stick handling to buy space, and play making aren't his strengths.

Ahhhh did I ever missed hockey this summer.

Saturday game night in Montreal and guess who is knocking at the door; good old Philly!

Opening night stuff that resulted in a loss to the hands of the Leafs is behind both teams. Typical "under estimating Habs chat" going.... yes hockey is back!

Welcome back to Montreal Flyers Nation!

I think the odds are against the Flyers making the playoffs this year. As always, I reserve the right to be wrong.

I heard that as well... AThey said the Leafs beat a borderline playoff team in Montreal, and that Philly is in major trouble and won't make it.

I am happy to have Briere but like I said before, Vinny would of been by far a better fit in Montreal as there is not much Briere brings to the Habs that we don't already have. It's no secret we need size upfront. With some contracts expiring at the end of this year, I believe this should be the last year the Habs will be consider as a small team. But still happy to Danny in the line up.

The goal this year for the Habs is to have a strong season and make the playoffs. Both goals are in reach for sure.

I don't know about you guys but I can't wait to go to the ACC and kick some Leafs butt later this year!

Either way if he isn't 100% I don't think Lavi would want to broadcast that to the test of the league. Tho it's not hard for those teams to figure it out.

The way he and the Flyers have dominated the Habs in their last two playoff matchups (8 and 2 record), I am not surprised they signed him LOL

95% of people who talk hockey on the radio (hosts and callers included) have no clue what they're talking about.

Rob Ellis was on the other night saying Flyers fans think too highly of their teams when they're bad more than any other fanbase in Philly. Rob Ellis has apparently never met an Eagles fan.

I believe The Fan is a Toronto based radio station, though. What you say is true about stations around Philly, though. The only time you'll hear Flyers on the radio is when the Phillies are done and the Eagles news front is a dead zone. I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if someone were to prove that The Fan 590 in Toronto talks more about the Flyers than any station in this area.

i wasn't so optimistic before it started or right after the game, but i agree now. there was a lot to be encouraged by in that game. hopefully they just keep moving forward, because the talent is there. at least i believe it is
