Monahan took a shot off the ankle this morning during pregame skate. Helped off the ice. Not sure of status right now. - Colin Dambrauskas

I'd rather watch that team grind out an entertaining game like that than the mediocre veteran team we watched the past 3 or 4 years.
Anyone else think CGY looked better-coached than they have in years? Maybe more to do with the personnel than the coach. - Fotiu666
yeah the boys looked good always a person rushing to the puck constant pressure and finishing hits it was a exciting game none of this drifting for the pass. |

Yikes that's not good then especially if Stajan is out.... - HurtinAlbertin
Stajan is out too?? I thought it was Stempniak that got hurt??
Back to last nights game...nobody should be surprised by it (Flames fan or not) Although I was surprised by how many chances they generated and how they dominated OT, the outcome was pretty predictable.
I thought Ramo looked pretty good for his first NHL game in a while. The OVI goals were both deflected, tough to stop those. All in all a solid game, at least it looks like he can play pretty decent at this level.
I thought Street looked good actually.
Baertschi and Monohan both showed some skill, good to see, I hope Hartley keeps them together.
Really like Russell on the back end.
Butler is sheeit.
Glencross was a ghost...thought he would be a better on ice example, but again, he's always been an on/off type of player. |

Going by what a lot of fans say on this site, I'd agree with you. Personally, I'm just hoping they're in the fight for playoffs until the last 3 games. I think it's incredibly stupid for people to think that you can start a season off with 1 NHL centre and expect to have a great outcome. The Oils fate lies in RNHs hands/shoulders. If he can get back to playing like he did in his rookie year within a month, the Oil may surprise. Arcobello ~ Gagner in my mind (both average offensive talents lacking D play for NHL 2Cs).
Will they finish ahead of the Flames?
They fcking better - BigDre
Yea I agree with the C thing. And if you're talking about Hall, he isn't even a natural C. If you're going to make the PO this year it'll be a reverse from your last few seasons. Poor start but strong finish when your actual C return. |

You cannot legitimately analyze a hockey team by watching it on TV. You can pretend to, but really you can't. |

You guys think Monahan stays with the Flames for the whole season? - Scabeh
IMO he'll have to show a lot more than he did last night. After the 1st few shifts I thought he was a bit invisible. |

The only difference is that when you are there live, you can see what is going on at other areas of the ice. Many times i'll track a player for their whole shift to see what they do away from the puck. Problem with TV, is they just follow the puck.
Edit: That is why i'm totally excited to see Porier next year, at the game i saw him play he had a knack of being open, and was banging his stick on the ice wanting the pass to come to him (which many defenders missed). Wouldn't have seen that on TV. |

No worries Colin, i'm you seem to read alot of analysis, watch hightlights and TV games, plus you reach out to flames management. You do enough to write your articles well and to analyse the games. |

thanks ...theres more that goes into writing blogs than some give credit for. A lot of reading/watching...and I do speak with Flames personnel every so often.
Dont always have the time to break down EVERY game as I'd like given that im pushing out 6-7 blogs a week, but I take notes during games and having played my entire life, it pays dividends when assessing certain parts of the game. |

Agreed, it's not the same, but you can still do it...
Hence why teams watch video...

he'll say chicago, since you know, they won the cup last year....not getting involved i just hate ppl who don't cheer for their hometown. Like some people in who were born and raised in Toronto but are somehow die hard habs fans with no connection to the city. they just want attention for being different - clark_griswold
Dude, I was born in Montreal and moved to CGY as a kid. I was there when the Flames came to CGY and have been a fan ever since. I've lived kn Victoria, never cheered for the 'Nucks. I now live in Edmonton ( ) and I will never cheer for the Oilers except maybe as a Canadian team in PO (assuming CGY is out). I wont cheer for the home team simply because I live here.
