If they're generating chances and not scoring, that has zero to do with the coach. The coach has to put them in a position to win, and the players have to execute.

Agreed. Lavy can't make adjustments for players who are just missing the net on quality chances. I think it's a bit of rust, a little bit of "gripping the stick too tight" as they say, and I'm not worried that those things won't get worked out soon by the players. I thought I saw a lot more quality 5v5 chances in game one than compared to their best games last season.

Well you're obviously missing one key point. I didn't state that Dreger is making it up, or that he wasn't hearing it. I questioned the source of that information and where Dreger was hearing it from. Nor did I state that if Laviolette was fired, that Berube wouldn't be the next Coach.

And I hope the rumor is false. I would really like fresh blood if they were to replace Lavi. Too early for that talk though. I want to see at least 3-4 weeks before I grade the coaches performance either positive or negative.

I'm sure management has discussed the possibility at various points during Lavi's tenure, especially during the low point of last season... Dreger was at the Leafs/Flyers opener, so I'm sure he was mining his contacts in the Flyers org for info since Lavi's so publicly on the hot seat... one or more of them might have just been talking off the record.
