Despite the 7 PK's, Kadri getting benched half-way through the game, and Orr and Ashton seeing around 6min, outside of Kessel, they still didn't have a single forward close to 20mins.

Getting owned on faceoffs, and generally all over the ice.

You obviously misunderstood the comment. In terms of your post, what is meant by that because I obviously talked about a team rolling 4 lines, a teams 4th line doesn't match the other lines on the same team shift for shift. In other words, if the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd lines get say 8 shifts in a period, the 4th line does not. They typically get less shifts then the other lines. Your premise that you offered that the Flyers can't play the Giroux line agains the oppositions 4th line, because Rosehill is in the lineup. Is simply false. They certainly can. Just by how I explained it.

And that feeds into my point where if you put Giroux out there against Orr, now you have to either put your enforcer-saddled 4th-line out there against a tougher matchup, or you have them miss one of the few shifts that you actually trusted them to take entirely.

You're either screwed defensively, or you're screwed by skating the legs out from under your other forwards.

Even if they just benched Rosehill and double-shifted somebody else in his place, the latter would still be true, just to a lesser degree.

That's why a lot of us have spoken out against Rosehill being in the picture. He's not only useless outside of fighting, his presence in the lineup puts the team at multiple needless disadvantages.

They're going to miss some shifts anyway. They always do. Regardless of whether Rosehill is on the 4th line or not. Nor does that screw a team in any way. Those disadvantages don't exist. And I've pointed that out to you with the facts, on every post you've made. The fact is that there is a bias against Rosehill, which is simply proven by your characterization of him as useless. He's perfectly capable of playing a 4th line shift, and being in the 13th forward/enforcer role on the team.

The ice times from the game that I gave to refute the premise that you tried blaming Rosehill as the reason why Giroux and Hartnell played so much in the game, are the facts. I gave you both historical data from last Season, as well as the ice times from the official event summary. And clearly showed that it was the amount of PP time, and the game situation, that raised the ice time of players such as Giroux, from normal levels. Not because Rosehill was in the lineup, and the Coach was afraid to play him, as you claimed.

Don't just pop in? I'm sorry that I have more to do with my life than increase my self esteem by making comments on a blog all day long like you do. I didn't realize that armchair coaches like yourself were able to dissect games and provide better solutions than a professional coach that has won a Cup and taken the Flyers to the finals once and the playoffs every year, but last season, amidst a poope load of player turnover in 2011-2012. His record as a Flyers coach is pretty damn good, has lasted longer than most coaches here have and although the "team" has struggled against the Devils, Rangers and Lightning, they have also done rather well against other foes, such as the Penguins. You can't always have it both ways, unless you are running the table in the conference. Sometimes certain teams just match up better against others.
- aantny88

Sorry to rehash an old post, but...

I'm not asking him to run the table. I'm asking him to make adjustments to better counter what the Devils, Rangers and Lightning do to flat out dominate the Flyers.

As for doing "rather well" against the Penguins, the last two seasons they are 5-5 against Pittsburgh.

I don't want it both ways, I want a coach who can adjust to the players he has on his team AND be able to adjust his system to have better success against teams that his team gets dominated by. That's what a good coach does when something doesn't work, he makes adjustments.

Sorry if you don't like it, but the coach has left himself open to criticism, as have the players and management. Again, if you don't like it give valid arguments. Laviolette's 7 year old Stanley Cup is a lot less recent than his last non playoff season or consecutive seasons of getting blown out in the second round. The pattern he followed in Carolina has repeated itself here in Philly.

My preference is that he adjust and be able to beat those teams that dominate the Flyers, because I don't see a lot of long term promise in the likely replacements (Berube, Murray or Paddock) and I don't want to see them have to trade an asset for a guy currently working for another team.

Oshawa isn't bad so to speak but if the team is thinking long term a move could be expected.

I'll be watching Laughton again tonight.

OK. Get my hopes up: Does he look like he can be an honest-to-gosh NHL starter?

I haven't watched him play yet. I'm borderline afraid to do so, because I can't bear to have my hopes crushed again about a goalie who is putting up numbers like he has, albeit with a powerhouse franchise.
