No comparison.
Once we traded Colborne, I realized he was nothing but a plug.
Ashton is the real deal.

On a serious note, yes I'll admit that I was the guy advocating for keeping Colborne. A 6'5" centre is something the Leafs could surely use. But wow, did the guy not impress in the pre-season. I was at the Buffalo game, and I was specifically watching him to see if he could do anything to justify my blind faith in him.
Sadly, he didn't. Plenty of giveaways in our end. Nothing offensively.
2 games in, and I'm loving Bolland, so I'm not regretting giving up on Colborne.
But I am troubled by the re-emergence of the Leafs' pattern of giving up on prospects. Frattin gone. Colborne gone.
Yes, I'm happy with the Bernier trade. But we really need to start proving we can develop our own prospects (yeah, I know, Colborne wasn't drafted by us, but you get the idea). - Atomic Wedgie
the thing is.. bernier is the same age as frattin
and scrivens if you care was older than both

That's why I don't understand caring about what Grabo does on Washington... He plays with the great 8 for crying out loud!? Of course he'll pot goals when you play with Backstrom and Ovi on the PP...
Kule would do the same paired with Malkin. Point of the argument is without a superstar, Grabo brings very little to the table compared to Kule... - A_Tree
Naw grabo plays better when he has something to prove. He hates the world and the leafs now, so hes gunna poop on everyteam |

Why would you want to trade gardiner away for. Anything that involves franson, gardiner or rielly is our future. Just trade gunner away (frank) - Mapleleafs_91
But do you really need three guys who are roughly similar?
Best case scenario is all three develop into top-4 defencemen. I'd be frightened by the idea of two of those guys being paired against a top line.
So if you can swap one for something really good in return, it's worth considering. |

I 100% agree. it seems the leafs/leaf fans are happy giving up on the drafting developing/keeping young players as soon as we see a tiny bit of success.

We developed Bozak(kinda), Kadri, Kulemin, Gunnarsson. We are currently developing Rielly. All the Marlies down there are our own drafted prospects.
Yes, we've been terrible at that in the past but we also have down well trading for other team's what-were top prospects.
Look at our top players. Lupul 7th overall in 2002, Phaneuf 9th overall in 2003, Kessel 5th overall in 06, Bernier 11th overall in 06, JVR 2nd overall in 07. Gardiner 17th overall in 2008 |

Well we dont know for sure how rielly will turn out. Will he be strictly offensive or a good two way player. Gardiner is strictly offensive we know that, but i see franson more as a two-way guy. Gardiner is arguably a younger version of liles, but with more skill and creativity |

I'll get you for this!
A couple of years ago I took my daughter to a skating skills place. The kid running the skating treadmill had helped out with the fitness testing for the Leafs' training camp.
He said that for pretty much every strength and condintioning test, Kulemin blew everyone else away. The guy was a freak of nature (figuratively). - Atomic Wedgie
Seriously though, and you only need to watch the games ( ), the guy never tires. That's a bit exaggerated obviously, but the point is you can rely on him to hustle and grind opponents out all night. He's my favorite Leaf aside from Lupul. |

Grabbo hates the leafs now so he is going to make every team pay for what they leafs did?
Or maybe he is just enjoying playing with two real good linemates. |

Ya, okay.
So he seriously lack self motivation and seeks negative external motivation to get him going again? Sounds like a guy we should have kept, hands down. |

Scrivens seems like a nice guy, and I sincerly hope he does well.
But we could have traded him for a bowl of soup and I wouldn't have minded the deal. |

I need a life-sized Kessel doll that I can female dog slap every time he gives up on a puck because there is body contact involved to get it. He was ok in game 1 for not doing that but game 2.... my god. |

I thought we were just talking about how we don't develop well. Let him play 25 minutes a game with the Marlies for now. He'll be an NHL player |

He has something to prove this year basically, is why hes playing good. He was pissed because leafs let him go, cause they think he sucked and carlyle thinked he sucked, so now he wants to prove himself and hes gunna poop on every team and arguably pot up 70 pts this year with the help of ovie and backstrom |

I'll give you Scrivens. Although I feel Frattin will get better. Not a stud by any means but I think he will round into a pretty good player. |
