You guys are all forgetting we have Schroeder coming back soon. Our third line will be saved. - dshiddy
Sorry Shiddy disagree on this. He is a smaller player who does not put up big numbers . He was sent down last year close to the playoffs which tells me he is not a difference maker. He played well with Higgins and Hansen last year but lets see how many points he gets with Booth and Santorelli. |

Yup, The "Lets get younger" Movement that was supposed to take place this year never happened.
I understand that Horvat and Shink are better off with another year in junior. But what about Gaunce? You cant tell me that hes worse than any one of the slugs we picked up.
And we picked up Santorelli who had a really good Pre season. But was it just me or was he playing the wing last night? - vancity787
I don't know about a lot of Canucks fans but living in Manitoba I see a lot of jets games and eastern conference players. Santorelli was ugly last year. My biggest pet peeve has become these old guys who have been through tons of training camps. They know exactly what to do to get a contract and make the team. Then they can suck bag. They're going to get their million. |

Schroeder is a small player but he is quick and skillful. As a centre men he won't make it. Kesler has clearly become a shooter. We have been needing someone to pass the puck to him. So why not play Schroeder as a winger for Kesler. Maybe Kassian on the other wing. You get some defence in Kesler, physicality in Kassian and a smart hockey player in Schroeder. Sadly Hansen and Higgins need the same type of smart hockey player. When coho playedbetween them, they both had their best years statistically.
I'd like to see booth and a defence men be traded for a third line centre and a top prospect scoring winger. |

There were lots of positives from last night, I choose to focus on them. - dshiddy
I thought there were some positives. Sedins + Burrows were dangerous on the rush as well as cycling the puck down low. The PK was awesome. Bieksa wasn't the most lost D man. Burrows
What little I saw of the Satanton/Bieksa pairing was decent, this allows Hamhuis/Garrison and Edler/Tanev to play together.
I didn't like Kesler with Higgins and Hansen, did they even generate one scoring chance? But, Booth was also pretty much invisible.
I think this team has a hard road ahead, hopefully they're up for the climb.
EDIT - oh yeah, Lu played pretty well |

I thought Booth was injuried until they showed the back of his jersey mid way through the second period. |

I get the fact that some people are getting pissed hearing me bang the negative drum. It is like having an ugly sister.Everyone knows she is ugly but no one can mention it. If someone does mention it everyone is all over them.
Money Ball Gillis is at it again.
WhoTF are Dalfe ,Stanton ,Santorelli ,Weise ,Richardson and Sestito ? They are all throw aways from other teams . They have advanced stats so Gillis is all over them. The truth is they suck.
Higgins and Hansen are very good third liners being forced to play second line because we don't have second liners even though we pay Burrows and Booth second line money.
The Edler train has sailed. Kesler can play with no one. The reset was a coach after again being promised bigger faster stronger by the BSing GM.

Do we have the stats to prove that. I think you will be surprised at how close the 2 teams are. The playoff record over the last 20 yrs in terms of wins and playoff series wins are almost identical. I am not sure what the regular season success is but who really cares how well you do in the reg season. We need to stop holding on to our regular season wins as this huge accomplishment. |

Potential be damned, right here and now IMO:
Kassian - mediocre, inconsistent, potential liability
Booth - invisible, not a goal scorer
Higgins/Hansen - fine 3rd liners if they can stay there. If on 2nd line we're in trouble
Kesler - not at the level of previous years, maybe never will be again. No offensive chemistry with Burrows
4th line - this line looks like it might just be there to burn time, not much more |

I read somewhere Dalpe had more shots than the top line. If that's even close to correct I'm not sure how we're calling the top line dangerous in any regard. You have to shoot to score, but maybe I'm wrong. - AlexF
It's not a great stat to judge the team by. Quality shots are more important than perimeter shots, also, it's hard to shoot the puck when the other team has it all night.
The Sedins were fine last night, they were the only line that have any sustained offensive pressure the WHOLE game. They each got a point, just like they always do and at the end of the season they'll both most likely have around 80 points. |

I agree it's not a great stat but it does tell a story. They were ok in the 1st period, certainly not buzzing but generating some positive movement. The issue here is that the Sedin line at 2-3 ppg isn't dynamic enough to lift the entire team. It's not like the Crosby, Ovechkin, or Stamkos lines. Therefore they will need support from the bottom 9 and it doesn't look promising unfortunately. |

So Since I was bored as hell. I decided to chart all the wins for both leafs and canucks over the last 20 years.
Canucks 724 - 565 - 184
Leafs 699- 597 - 184
Playoff wins
Canucks 72
Leafs 71
So factually you are 100% correct canucks have won more than the leafs. |

Gillis is still deciding which button to push. He doesn't know which is the reset or which is the panic button. |
