Schenn isn't a good fit on the 2nd line with Vinny and Simmonds. Read fit well with them. I'm not going to break up a good 2nd line, so the third line is better.
- PhillySportsGuy

I disagree that Schenn isn't a good fit on the 2nd line. It's the best fit for him on this team. I'm not doing it to make the 3rd line better. I'd do it to make the whole team better.

Maybe its me, but I thought I saw an adjustment. It took a couple shifts, but they did start to break the trap IMO.
- youarewrong

I don't know if it was an adjustment or they finally willed their way into the zone. I had a bad feeling after almost going fruitless on the PP. Plenty of time to right that ship but they could have buried the leafs last night on pp.

i dont think kimmo get 6 mill next year
- PhillaBully

With the cap going up, I think he could get at least 5M. This is assuming he doesn't miss a lot of the season with an injury.

In just glad Rosehill was there to deter too offensive players from getting into fights

But seriously don't want to go down this road today. Wonder I we see mason again or if emery sees his first start. I'm guessing emery.

- funmaster18

Tough call, I thought Mason played well last night. But you gotta think they want to see Emery in regular season action too.

Probably still have to give up someone to add Vanek, and replace Timonen.

Kimmo Timonen is going to ask for what the market will bear.

I really don't know why people don't understand that or cry that he's making $6 million dollars.

Flyers had 3 costly breakdowns that the Leafs killed them on. Leafs did do a better job limiting 2nd chances. That's where the Flyers need to improve. Offensively and defensively.
- MJL

Speaking of defense. I was happy with the teams defense most of the night. Didn't hear Kessel's name until he scored the goal, or JVR's much at all.

Come on people. They played a very good game against a hard working defensive team. Sure we came up short, but this is the play we were looking for against teams like Toronto, Jersey, Rangers, and Boston. I think this answers that we can play with them.

I can see Lavi switching a lot in the beginning, plus it's a back to back. Maybe emery starts Sunday?

It would be difficult Cap wise, but it could be done. And I'm not advocating for that. I don't think it's a real need, but it would be nice.
- MJL

Im with you there, he would be a luxury not a need.

That's it in a nutshell in that situation. It has to come down to shear will and outworking the team. Getting on the puck, and getting it to the net. Not the time for pretty goals on the rush or fancy passing plays. Get the puck to the net, and crash the net.

Especially when you consider his value to this team. Could you imagine this team without him?

Do Schenn or Simmonds fit on the 3rd line? Both struggle defensively at times, but I need jake with G. And Read looked good with Vinny, but is a much better 2 way player than Schenn and Simmer. I think they have some time to sort out the lines, even with the playoffs around the corner.

That's not the question I'd ask. The question I'd ask it's what's better out of this choice.

Read-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Schenn

or

Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Read

I'd choose the latter.

If I had to move a foward it would hartnell. Due to age only
- SMS4016

We need to keep Hartnell because of his age. He is a leader in that room. Cap friendly...for now... and is a vet. He played great last night and showed his dedication by coming into cap as fit as he has ever been.

I'd start Mason against the Habs and Emery against the Canes. Habs are very fast and shifty. They may call for a more athletic type.

I disagree on this. I saw improvement over last years team. Once Toronto got the lead, they clamped down defensively as to be expected. And the first few shifts, the Flyers had trouble getting into the zone and getting set up. But eventually they adjusted. And to me that is the KEY. They Adjusted. Last year, the team would have kept doing the same thing they did all game and try and be cute to get a goal, and ended up playing more time in the defensive zone. At least last night after they adjusted, they still had most of the possesion play.
- youarewrong

thank you for disagreeing...
if they adjusted to the trap, I would think they would've had more pressure in the third period and scored maybe a second goal.

Agreed! Hartnell and G try to spice it up too much IMO. Simplify their game and they will get opportunities and they can pick their spots to be fancy. Saw too many last minute blind passes across the middle or through the slot instead of taking the shot and fighting for a rebound. The leafs were tired, we should have been able to crash the net and outwork the leafs in front.

Let's face it. Bernier made some exceptional saves. If just 1 goes in the net, I think we have a different outcome.
