Yea, I think Voracek will eventually be reunited with Giroux. And although I certainly like Read with Lecavalier, I would play Read with Talbot and Couturier. And put Schenn on the wing with Lecavalier.
- MJL

Schenn, Vinny, Simmonds looked terrible in the preseason. I wouldn't break up Read-Vinny-Simmonds. If Schenn needs to play with Couturier and Talbot, then so be it.

Because this is just a continuation of last year and last year sucked eggs.

I don't think they'll have the money to do that. I'm sure they will try though. Keep in mind that Kimmo will either retire and need a replacement or come back at $6M.
- PhillySportsGuy

They should keep giving Timonen 6 million a year until he's 50.

I'm not sure if there is a team that couldn't use a top scoring winger.

I think on most nights when the Flyers out chance another team by that much, they will win.

- PhillySportsGuy

I really want to see where things stand on Monday AM after their road trip. I saw enough good things last night where I think they are headed in the right direction.

We should also consider for a second that Toronto is pretty damned good.

First two periods - good
still need to come out with at least 2 goals

Last period - horrible

Desperation?
I just don’t want the same start from last year.

Still no answer to the trap. If the oppsoing team clogs the middle the Flyers DO NOT have an answer.

- phi1671

I disagree on this. I saw improvement over last years team. Once Toronto got the lead, they clamped down defensively as to be expected. And the first few shifts, the Flyers had trouble getting into the zone and getting set up. But eventually they adjusted. And to me that is the KEY. They Adjusted. Last year, the team would have kept doing the same thing they did all game and try and be cute to get a goal, and ended up playing more time in the defensive zone. At least last night after they adjusted, they still had most of the possesion play.

If he keeps playing like a 6 million dollar player, they should.

I was in favor of moving Jake off the first line in order to balance things out. I thought moving him down to the third line was too much though. He needs to be on the ice more.

Even though Schenn scored the loan goal last night, it seems like the team is constantly trying to find the right place for him. He doesn't seem to have an identity as a player yet. What does he want to be? A PF type, a setup man, two way forward?

- PhillySportsGuy

With his dominant fighting prowess, he might go the way of a goon.

Tough to adjust to a good defensive team clamping down defensively. They tried different kinds of zone entries to no avail.
- bradleyc4

I think they started to press when they couldn't score. Normally, the Flyers are pretty good at finishing. They seemed to get frustrated with each chance and power play opportunity going by the wayside.

Vanek is a nice player but his cap hit is way to rich for the flyers. Maybe if they took mezaros and simmonds for vanek and a pick it could work.

It annoys me to no end to hear this over and over again after every loss. The other team adjusted their style of play and the Flyers fail to counter with their own adjustments.

It is like a broken record.

You could see the Flyers trying the same thing over and over again and failing once Toronto adjusted. It was so frustrating to watch.

- MBFlyerfan

Maybe its me, but I thought I saw an adjustment. It took a couple shifts, but they did start to break the trap IMO.

He does fight, but I have never seen him win a fight. He needs to be taught a lesson from older brother.

Yep. I mean, losing to the Maple Leafs really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But there was already a bad taste from last year. Still, there were positives, and it's only the first game.

Feelings on that hip, new goal song?

I would. Because I want Voracek with Giroux. And Schenn is not a good fit on the 3rd line with Couturier. Forget the Pre Season. Couturier was probably the best forward on the team in pre season. He didn't have a real good game last night. Things change. Look at how much better the team looked overall last night compared to the pre season?

He's still their best defenseman. They need to bridge the gap between this group and the young guys. Not sure Alt, Morin or Ghost will be ready to step in next year.

It's not really a cap thing, so much as an ice time thing. He's a top six guy, so who would he supplant?

If I didn't watch last year or the playoffs with the devils is be pretty satisfied with the overall effort last night, but having seen all that I'm concerned when teams clamp down. The flyers do not know how to clamp down and they don't know how to penetrate a team that is clamping down.

I do know I was much more pleased with the effort than I expected after the preseason. Well see what they do the next couple of weeks.

It would be difficult Cap wise, but it could be done. And I'm not advocating for that. I don't think it's a real need, but it would be nice.

In just glad Rosehill was there to deter too offensive players from getting into fights

But seriously don't want to go down this road today. Wonder I we see mason again or if emery sees his first start. I'm guessing emery.

I personally thought Mason looked pretty good out there. The chances he faced were far more difficult than those Bernier faced. He also had a few fantastic saves and one where he made the first two initial saves only to get beat on the third chance.

With that being said, Bernier was the difference maker. He single handedly kept the Leafs in the game over the first half of the game.. PP after PP and save after save. Some very nice, but none that required extraordinary effort. Both goalies were good, one just managed to help his team a bit more.

Schenn isn't a good fit on the 2nd line with Vinny and Simmonds. Read fit well with them. I'm not going to break up a good 2nd line, so the third line is better.

Probably still have to give up someone to add Vanek, and replace Timonen.
