They didn't have to be under at 5PM on Oct 1st. They had to be Cap compliant on Sept 30th, not using LTIR, to maximize the LTIR benefits. And they also needed to be as close to the upper limit, including bonuses using the bonus cushion, as possible to get the full LTIR benefit. Keeping Laughton could've have played into that.

I stand corrected, had my dates wrong.

The dates don't really matter, didn't mean to nitpick. The real point I wanted to make is the possibility that there are issues that might not be visible on the surface. And reasons why they've made the moves they have, that we're not aware of. That's the only way some of these moves might make sense.

Wow, we sure see that differently. Wouldn't mind hammering away at that over a couple beers.

I just think if they expand, they are opening up more jobs without more skilled players to fill them. So if they expand they are guaranteeing the continuance of the goon role. It's too bad the sport is unwilling to develop. Saying it's always been that way didn't work for racism or the treatment of head injuries in general, so change isn't necessarily bad.

I think in terms of the goon role, I think the sport is developing. I think there's a number of rules put into place, which limit fighting somewhat. And a lot of teams don't carry an enforcer. I'd like to see it eliminated from the sport. It's moving in that direction, but it's not a unanimous feeling at this point.

I was also unaware of the need to be as close as possible to the upper limit.

Probably because Raffl & McGinn need to play to develop. VandeVelde is still on an AHL only deal, unless I missed him signing.

Newbury can come up and be a healthy scratch and not have his development stunted.

On paper and on the surface, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to keep Laughton on the roster for opening day, scratch him in game 1. And then send him to Juniors the next day. It screams either incompetence and or indecision. Same with waiving Hall and not Rosehill. On what level does that make sense from a normal Hockey perspective? None! So it's either think that they don't know what they're doing, or they know something we don't. I choose the latter.

Short side top shelf shot, kinda looks like he's playing with either anger or a hell of a lot of energy..........maybe both

Even though he wasn't with Oshawa they still listed him on the roster & considered them served during their first 3 games of the season.

He's now on a the top line, it took their coach not long. Many suspect they'll move him since they have a young club.

There are enough rules in place for the refs to make it very undesirable for the coach to put his enforcers out on the ice to either stir the pot or retaliate. They just need to step up and make the calls.

Orr cross checks Rosehill high in the chest near his face...major for cross checking and a game misconduct. Gone. TO shorthanded for five plus the initial penalty.

The ref could even call it a match for an obvious intent to injure.

Word gets around, enforcer's minutes decrease. Easy peasy.

Much better for him unless they were willing to roll with him consistently on the 4th line.

That's what I'm hoping, that he plays huge go-to-guy minutes for Oshawa, gets traded to a contender later and the season and hopefully makes it to WJC and has a good showing there too.
