Not to interrupt the bee talk or rehash anything, but the Flyers handling of the Laughton/Hall situation is really moronic.

There was no need to waive Hall and keep Laughton to maximize the LTIR exemption of Pronger, because Laughton's cap hit is actually higher than Hall's.

So basically, the Flyers risked a solid 4th liner, good face off man and penalty killer in order to have Scott Laughton wear a nice suit and get introduced to the crowd before last night's Leafs-Flyers game.

- Jsaquella

They could've also done the effortless thing and done a paper demotion of Schenn and/or Couts, no? Then everybody gets to wear suits, nobody goes on waivers and the LTIR allowance is preserved.

...OR and just follow me on this.... maybe there is something more to it. Like they are making room now for a new player....
- youarewrong

They could have.....GASP!...simply sent Laughton down before and had the room!!!

Cap space isn't an issue. Roster space isn't an issue. So where should I follow you?

Even before the roster had to be submitted at 5 pm on Oct 1st, the Flyers could have sent Laughton down and saved more money than by sending Hall down.

Generally, I agree with their moves. However, they have made enough moves that make me question them that, at times, I simply have to say that they made a dumb move.

In the end, they didn't lose anybody, but here's something that did happen:

Scott Laughton didn't play in a game and he was with the Flyers for 4 games that his junior team played. He still has to serve a 3 game suspension in the OHL, which means that he won't see game action for at least another week.

That's really poor handling of a guy who is purported to be the team's top prospect. Regardless of whatever reason you can think of or whatever rational you can give, it made no sense to keep Laughton up for an extra 4 days only to send him back down.

- Jsaquella

Like I said, I don't think we have all the information on why certain moves are made. OB posted that Laughton is in the lineup tonight for Oshawa.

i like bees. and we need them.
- hammarby31

I love bees. And the bee pollen that helps me not have allergy symptoms all summer. And the honey that sweetens my fruit and yogurt. Of course, I have managed to only be stung once in my life, stepping on a bumble bee when I was 5. It is such a vivid memory I can still remember it was in front of the Church family's house in small town IL.

Sure, that could have happened, too.

Would have been nice to see Laughton burn games off his suspension at least, rather than sit here and learn the importance of dressing a goon

Your BP is spiking for no reason. It didn't matter. Hall played last night.

By the way, may I just say my favorite part of the game last night after the Schenn goal (and if it were that easy to score when given a gift, the Flyers would have won 8 to something last night) was the 3 block shift for Grossman. That was SO hot.

I would assume that it has something to do with the LTIR situation. Some of us are well versed in the Cap and the CBA. But that doesn't mean we are aware of all the nuances and technicalities of it. Same thing with waiving Hall. Maybe they know something we don't. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. And I'm not going to criticize them over something that didn't happen.

If he is, then they're appealing the suspension or they got around it somehow.

And going off the information we do have, I feel it was a rather poor handling of the situation.

What a phenomenal defensive shift there by Grossmann. Every team needs a player like him.

To me it's the same as the Hall situation. Much ado about nothing. And getting all dandered up for miniscule stuff.

Not at all. Been at work all day, just figured I'd stop by and talk about roster moves the team made. Guess that's something that's frowned upon.

Oh well.

There's a lot of options that they had. We don't know why they chose to not do that for Schenn and Couturier. It could be as simple as wanting them to get off to a good start, and not miss any practice time. Unless we know the exact reasoning on why they chose to, or not to do something. I don't know if it's fair to criticize based on perception.

I've been stung by a bee once when I was like 7. When I was around 10, I stepped on a wasp nest in the woods and ended up getting stung like 15 or 16 times. Seriously, (frank) wasps

I think he and Streit were the best defensemen last night, at least in terms of doing the jobs they were brought in to do.

I know. That was more a general comment than a poke at you.
