yeah, uh, let's wait and see how the season plays out.

meh, Mac thinks he's fancy, not my type of player. Mason already has impressed me more in a couple plays then Mac did in 3 years. Sure he had the 1st good year...but Kuleman/Grabo made him shine I believe.

I think Clarke is a good person I just don't like his hockey sense.

The thing I want to see more than anything is the Leafs have the 29th best Corsi/Fenwick and still finish ahead of 14 other teams.

Leafs win = fluke, unsustainable, luck will run out. The stats don't lie.

Leafs lose = SEE! I told you so.

Winning again.

Awesome start to the season.. Players beginning to learn the system.. I love it.

True, but DAMN we look sloppy .
If we didnt have the goaltending we have now it could have been 0-2 .
Good two first games, lets see when we start to clean it up.. look out

I really hope Yost posts a 6-page blog showing how the Leafs can't continue winning.

I really enjoy those blogs that have lots of graphs and big words.

He used to be my fave blogger. I don't know when he suddenly jumped the shark on the whole advanced stats thing.

I wonder if the guy who had the Leafs 29th will show up and talk about his stupidity.

The Leafs may not make the playoffs, but I've had more than enough of awarding the Corsi cup to Ottawa.

Leafs played a very tight third period last night.

Habs game was result of two teams playing very excitable pond hockey. Leafs started very slow last night - understandable - but got it together and absolutely shut down the Flyers. There was a lot I liked about that game, including Bernier.

I pay zero attention to the Corsi numbers. I watch and draw my own conclusions. I have played enough to decide for myself, not be told by a stats guy.

Yes, blasting shots on net while crossing the red line and shooting from the side boards on NHL goalies is going to win you the cup for sure. 10-4

Yeah, I thought the Leafs tightened up a lot in the 3rd.

There has to be concern in Flyers land. I know it is only 1 game for them but where is the hope coming from over there?

Bernier looked damn good last night...its going to be tough for Reimer to outplay that performance...and if he can...yeah thats a really bad problem for the Leafs to have

My favourite Corsi moment...

When Yost first started this whole thing, he pointed out that, in February of 2012, Corsi correctly predicted 14(15?) of the 16 playoff teams.

Sounds impressive right?

... until I pointed out that in February 2012, a quick look at the standings also correctly predicted 14 (15?) of 16 playoff teams.

The problem isnt using or discussing advanced stats, its using nothing BUT advanced stats to make arguments or assessments of certain players and teams. They do help explain and project certain aspects of the game, however only take into account a portion of what needs to be considered...they cannot account for everything.

Kadri, Gardiner, and the goalies are the 3 things I'll watch closely this year. You pretty much know what you have everywhere else in the lineup.

Proves that because you have a group of good players, doesn't mean you will have a good hockey team.

Because Team is the most important word..

The problem is that the people who "believe" in this stuff are zealots about it, as if they discovered the Holy Grail.

It is EXACTLY like religion to these people. You can't argue with it. Every success that flies in the face of their stats is an unsustainable fluke. Every moment of failure that follows the stats is irrefutable evidence that they are true.

Bottom line, if there was stats like that, that were even remotely consistent, a lot of people would make a lot of easy money betting.

pft...thats the long and streneous way of predicting playoff teams...make it easy on yourself. Take top 6 teams from last two seasons, flip a coin on teams in 10-8th, roll the dice on teams from 8th-6th, and grab a handful of scrabble tiles and try and relate whatever it is that you can spell to one single team, and predict them as the winner.

Im here till 4.

I was agreeing about stats, we get outshot but there are tons of perimeter shots from weak angles is all I meant.
