The Leafs could win the east (not saying they will) by scoring opportunistic goals and grinding out wins, and there would still be those who say they suck because their possession numbers aren't as good as others. I guess some people prefer thinking about bullpoop stats over watching and enjoying games. Oh well.

I will take an ugly win any day over a loss where you have 80% puck possession per game

Baseballs advanced stats make sense. Just the way the game is set up works perfectly for that kind of thing.

It doesn't work like that with hockey though. If they started tracking more stats officially like where each shot is coming from and oddman rushes, etc I'm sure people could come up with a better formula than corsi and the like but they don't.

Totally agree. Even football has more meaningful "advanced stats". It works better for sports with defined starts and stops.

Football has downs, baseball has at-bats, but hockey is a continuous play, free flow sport. You just can't account for all the variables.

Agreed he had so many tonight where he had time to rim it on the boards and then he turned it over...

Reimer starts at the home opener. Same reason he kicked started the season in Habland. Bernier kicks a$$. He's sure is quick (bad pun), laterally as well as up and down, no rebounds, great with the puck. James has his work cut out for him.

That's the difference Carlyle's Leafs win the ugly ones.. where as the Wilson era Leafs lost bad ones...

Where Bernier excels is making the position look easy. Very calm cool and collected and doesn't make any unnecessary moves. Less is more.

My friend said to me tonight that he didn't make as many big saves as Reimer did against the habs but I told him that's because the style Bernier plays. He makes it look effortless.

Not to take anything away from Reimer cause he was great too.

I think out of fairness, you go back with Reimer and just keep going 1 for 1 until you lose.

I dont think it takes the Sabres that long to turn it around, once the turn the corner, in a year or 2 and dump that GM, I bet they are pretty decent

I think bernier is simply a better goalie. Which is kinda unfortunate cos how can you not want reimer to succeed. Love the goofy guy

I say you stick with a guy until he loses (unless there are back to backs). That way goalies aren't guessing. Even if they are awful in a win or great in a loss. Until one guy really runs with it. Bernier is the technical better goalie, but doesn't mean he is the better goalie. Reimer has not lost the job so let's sit back enjoy the ride and watch these 2 tenders give a big FU to corsi

Very impressive to have taken so long to get going and come away with a win. Leafs took over the game and played a very strong shut down game.

Good goaltending and Carlyle hockey

I'll just say it for you, Bernier is a better goalie. Better glove, has a lot of quickness, can handle the puck very well, great vision, etc. etc. He's better.
