I'd give the edge to Bernier. But that doesn't mean that Mason didn't play well.
- MJL

No, but it does explain people's disappointment with Mason. Every once in a while it would be nice if our goalie was the better goalie.

Dressing Rosehill had absolutely nothing to do with the Flyers losing the game. They have all the offensive talent they need. They just didn't click offensively and on the PP.
- MJL

never said it did. they could use another scorer, imo...felt this way since last yr.

That 3rd pairing scares the heck out of me. 2 guys that don't handle the puck real well. if gusty can recapture his gm from last yr, he'd be a better fit w/ one of the other glass bros.
- isaiah520

See, I wonder if that's it -- Meszaros didn't play poorly, and neither did Grossmann. But at the same time, I do wonder if the pairing will work.

I don't have an issue with the defense. Meszaros was solid.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Coaching was not the issue in the game.
- MJL

That's a matter if personal opinion. Carlyle adjusted and took out the flyers transitional game for the second half of the game

why are we trying t spin this loss and try to rationalize it wasn't a full on team (frank) up
- 2Real

I'm petty hard on the team in general but I really feel they played well tonight and deserved better. In my opinion Bernier won this game. to me it wasn't one of those games where the shots on goal were hollow (low percentage opportunities). I feel on most nights if they play like they did tonight, they will win. Yes, I do agree that they probably lack that one natural goal scorer but this line up should be scoring goals. I was happy with the overall play minus a few breakdowns. And I thought mason was good and deserved better. couldn't blame him on any of the goals and he came up with a couple really good saves.

I look at the 3 goals and ask myself, if he had a chance on them, and should he have made the save. My answer to that is no. So how can I not be happy with Mason's play in the game. Where is the disappointment at?

Meszaros was decent but he needs to get up to NHL game speed. The consistency of his injuries put him behind the 8-ball in terms of decision making.

Flyers had a great 1st period, then got worse every period thereafter.

Toronto looked like an average team tonight; Flyers looked worse. (1st game and back-to-back games are of course factors.)

Giroux was a non-factor who seemed to lose every big offensive zone faceoff.

Mason looked real good.

Bernier was amazing.

Colton Orr wanted to put 2 guys in the hospital 2 nights in a row. What a tough guy.

The Flyers have 2 very good PP units...too good to score only once in 7 chances.

There didn't seem to much to complain about regarding the oft discussed distance between defensemen and forwards coming out of their own zone, but there were an awful lot of bad/inaccurate passes as the game wore on.

Lecavalier looked strong.

The leash around Lavi's neck just got a little tighter.

All the Leafs did was sit back after getting the lead in the 3rd period. Look at the stats for teams records when leading in the 3rd? The game was 1-1 heading into the 3rd. It's not Coaching. It was a blown coverage in front of the net that led to Bolland's GW goal. That changed the game. Not on the Coach.

The only way to win a argument with MJL is not to have one with him.... No matter what he is the all wise and all knowing flyer poster if this blog. Frankly I consider myself unworthy of posting in the same space as him

I think just in general, the Flyers were just a tad slow making plays in the O zone. The timing seemed off. With this group of players its been better. For instance Hartnells blind pass across the front of the goal intendend for Giroux, should have been a half tick faster. Things like that, there should be room for improvement

Leafs are nothing but a borderline middle of the back Eastern Conf team. Exactly the kind of team you have to beat on home ice. Having a +6 PP advantage, and a penalty shot and the game shouldn't be close.

Not spinning.

I just don't think there's any reason to start jumping off the Ben Franklin bridge.

Yet.

it won't work...they are a poor match. one of them will have to play their off side and that's scary to me. but gusty will get plenty of time since glass breaks easily.

Look at the flyers stats when trailing behind one and coming back.. I'm sure they are below league average... Just like the 5 on 5

L. Schenn was last among Flyers D-men in ice time. Not sure I understand the logic behind that.

PP and he blew the coverage on the go ahead goal

Don't see what injuries have to do with decision making. His decision making was fine tonight, and he played a solid game. Especially compared to how he looked in the Pre season. There was a reason why he played more then every defenseman except Timonen and Grossmann.

Look at every team's stats when trailing. None of them are good, especially when trailing in the 3rd.

not arguing with you anymore but you would have to be blind that the flyers absolutely get manhandled when they are trailing. It's like there is no hope of them winning a ge while trailing in the third. I didn't say stats are spectacular, but the flyers fall way below average even for the poopty stats

I think so as well. Putting the PP chances aside, Bernier kept them in the game during even strength, and there's no arguing he was the difference on special teams.

Still, the Flyers were the team that seemed to wear down as the game went on, and that's not good. The spark seemed to wane.
