That's kind of my point...you get out played at 5 on 5, you're not going to win often
- Jsaquella

ok i think we're trying to say the same thing in different ways

the breakouts looked a little different from last year ... but I'm not sure how.
- FlyerGuy

I thought in the first the wings were closer to the d and not stretched out as far, and they all seemed to move up ice as a team

So who tells them to stand at the blue line?
- PhillaBully

That may be a coaching flaw. It sure didn't work

This.

But I was heartened that the team didn't seem to simply get penned in their own zone. I thought the break outs were better.

There was some good stuff. It was a start. Of course, if they don't build on this and win this weekend, it's pointless.

- johndewar

Breakouts were a lot better. Forwards came back a lot deeper, and there were definitely adjustments made from last Season. The forecheck was aggressive but a lot less reckless. Better neutral zone presence. I'm encouraged by a lot of what I saw. Just need to click better offensively and on the PP.

I'd give the edge to Bernier. But that doesn't mean that Mason didn't play well.
- MJL

mason was fine, bernier looked like a guy worth trading for...after 1 gm.

I just want them to play better at 5 on 5. That's my worry. The Leafs have a very good PK, and the Flyers had a ton of chances on the PP...The Leafs goalie was stellar.

At 5 on 5, especially as the game went on, Toronto was the better team

why are we trying t spin this loss and try to rationalize it wasn't a full on team (frank) up
- 2Real

I'm not spinning it, and I don't think anyone else is. We're all concerned about the even-strength scoring -- and rightfully so.

But I just don't see what there is to kill the Flyers for tonight. Not yesterday, or tomorrow. But tonight.

Couts got 11 minutes, G 26+. Horrible distribution. I understand the PP has something to do with it but 26 minutes a game and G will be toast in no time.

Brilliant!

Game situations. Flyers needed to score.

Who, would you say, was the better goalie tonight?
- Dkos

:
lol:
Bernier made about a dozen big saves, Mason only hsd three tough ones and two of them went in, do the math

Kimmo racing to the blueline, stopping and dropping it back to center to Giroux has to stop. He does it every time and causes the other two wingers to lose their stride. It is also very predictable and teams will start breaking it up at the line or Giroux is going to get nailed.
- flyerdude17

I absolutely hate that play. not sure who started that but more and more teams do it and have been for the last 3-4 yrs. HATE it

i thought they've been down a goal scoring winger since JVR was sent packing, but if anything stood out to me strictly personnel-wise, it was the contrast in the mobility of the TOR d corp vs ours. mez has looked real shaky so far since the exhib gms.
- isaiah520

Meszaros played a solid game tonight. And he looked much better then he did in Pre Season.

imagine another useful winger added to the mix and couts plays w/ him after special teams situations instead of a guy like rosebud. another reason to support the DET approach to team toughness and usher out the goon.
- isaiah520

Dressing Rosehill had absolutely nothing to do with the Flyers losing the game. They have all the offensive talent they need. They just didn't click offensively and on the PP.

I just don't think that coaching was why they lost tonight. They just couldn't solve Bernier early and it came back to bite them

I thought they did that in the first, but as the game wore on they reverted back to the old poop. They were full blown last years transitional game when they fell back

L. Schenn was last among Flyers D-men in ice time. Not sure I understand the logic behind that.

That 3rd pairing scares the heck out of me. 2 guys that don't handle the puck real well. if gusty can recapture his gm from last yr, he'd be a better fit w/ one of the other glass bros.

Nothing more than the Flyers had a ton of PPs. He looked fine -- I thought he got knocked off the puck a little too easy on the second goal, but at the same time, that's easy for me to say sitting at home. I'm not the one Joffrey Lupul's hitting, at speed.

agreed.

if they play this type of game for every game this season they'll win a lot more than lose.

I liked what I saw from this aspect. Couple things....

1. I don't like the lack of speed on the team.

2. Cooter had no shot tonight, he was thrown out there with Rinaldo, Hall, and Talbot everytime after the PPs.

3. The Leafs Dmen on the whole are more versatile. Better two way games from those guys and thats what we'll see, that more teams have more well rounded Dmen.

4. Simmonds has been flubbing golden opportunities for a month now, and B Schenn doesnt look good either
