Sounds huge, but in today's market it's hard to argue that he's not worth every penny. You never know though. Maybe he takes a bit of a discount. - Michael_Stuart
So do you think it's a two horse race for stamkos Maple leafs and Lightning ? |

good lord 64 million for phil kessel 8 per season!! Stamkos is going to want 10 or 12 per season when his contract is up!! - todd1a
He will be in the Crosby/Ovi/Malkin range
8.5-9.5 I bet

Or maybe he walks. Not that he doesn't enjoy playing in tampa, but Ive always had a feeling Stammer want to play for a Canadian/big market club. He's a Ufa when he's current contract expires, right? Horrible thought |

I have to believe that he wants to stay. But this isn't something I'm worrying about for a while. |

Yeah I think you're spot on with the Malkin contract comparison. |

Only thing to worry about is contract and cap inflation... might push him to the 10 range.... he is clearly a top 5 player so he will hold the cards

Ive been saying this all along, dont count out stamkos leaving, you guys will hate him forever but it is a very real choice. His family and friends will be a strong influence on getting him here. It will be a parise/suter scenario |

It's easy to make that argument, but for every player who chooses to go home there's at least one other who doesn't. Way to simplistic to say that it "will be" another Parise/Suter scenario. It could just as well be a Perry/Getzlaf scenario. |

Tampa and vinik can offer him more money no state taxes and good young team and a 8 year contract vs a 7 year contract the leafs could only offer. But 3 years is a while away no need to worry yet. |

I played NHL 2004 to the 10 year dynasty mode and Martin St. Louis was beast in winning 10 of 10 Stanley Cups.
Certainly, he was well deserving of this honour. He's right up there with Sakic and Yzerman for top tier player who were class acts. And all that while being a tiny guy with a huge heart as his biggest asset. |

Well its not like it keeps me up at night, but this team is a few years from being real competitive. Maybe he wants to stay during this rebuilds best years, but its not impossible that Toronto is as good as us in 3 years. I don't feel like stammer is all about the money, and Toronto won't have any problems paying him or clearing capspace.
In the end it will go down to what's most attractive for 91, trying to win a cup with the team that drafted him or play for a big market club that he has personal bonds with. It's pretty hard to project from the outside looking in. |

If the two idiot OK hockey cowboys Koules and Barrie still owned the team I think Stamkos would be gone in an instant the moment he could leave. But now that Vinik has established good stable ownership, a willing to take the time to rebuild from the inside out, and the means and want to win championships I am hopeful that Stamkos will stay. |

I will still say it's a 50/50 chance Stamkos stays in tampa or goes to the maple Leafs. We all know stamkos lives up there in the offseason. It really depends which team gives stamkos a better chance for a stanley cup or two in 3 years. |

I know if my family/friends lived anywhere besides where I was playing I would be there every summer, every Christmas break, every opportunity I had when not playing..
but that doesn't neccesarily mean i'd want to play there, im sure hes considered it, but a team become family as well, he has family in tampa on the team he plays for, and hes 23 years old hes still super young and would like to live it up a bit im sure..with beaches, he could get any girl he wants in florida lol, the nightlife would be funner (I know he takes his training seriously, but when wanting to go out its all better there) .... tampa is his second home...
just because he lives in TOR doesn't mean he wants to play for those bastards, especially when we will be better
...stamkos knows the captaincy is coming for him once marty retires, stamkos probably has just as much respect for TB for turning it around completely 180 since hes been drafted as we do for him, hes not a dummy lol oops last time I said that word I got banned
marty has never shown any signs of wanting to return to montreal.... and hes had worse times than stamkos here lol |

I'm originally from BC, most of my family is up there and it is a very beautiful place..... However, what earn here, the way I live and what pay in taxes. It would be a cold day in hell before I move back |

when I went to Portland this past summer, I spent 30$ on BRAND NEW hockey pants?? WTF ....plus less tax, then I spent only 49.99 on brand new skates, an even bigger WTF?????? ....same skates here in Canada are (frank)ing 100+ $ ..... ... id go back in a heart beat , I just paid 80 for a stick which is good here, I just cringe thinking what it would've been had I bought it down there
oh yah, lets not forget the price of beer down there...holy poop , so much more reasonable... |
