Knowing Frolik, he won't score again until February.

LOL...but man did he COME ON...like a ROLLING STONE for us late in his time with the TOMAHAWK...his lack of lamp lighting was pretty much forgotten by my dumbass...he was THAT GOOD in his PK/Energizer Bunny role.

Awesome post Cup...Nordstrom looked like a ROOKIE tonight. While Fro's out winning games for his new team. Not gonna harp on who's gone...we all knew some QUALITY was departing. Nordstrom's a very interesting player. I'd give him 8-10 games to see if he can get up to speed.

phil, you see that fight between Parros & Orr, I guess their 2nd of the game, Big George cracked his chin on the ice. the East is a whole different animal than the west. the Hawks better be ready for some of those games, Bollig is gonna be busy, especially with no help in THAT department.... some big tough boys over there.
Ahhh old tyme hockey!
PS, Bickell looked like the old Bickell tonite! Yawsa!

I think he looked fine. The penalty obviously was a brain fart and has to chip the puck in deeper on the entry but all in all I think he played good and he had a huge presence on the first goal.

Hey Phil...

Don't get me wrong, I luv the guy. I just don't think he'll score consistently. But who knows, with top 6 minutes and linemates he works well with, he may have great scoring stats this year.

Ya know the Jets will give him plenty of minutes.

After all, he DID score 20+ in consecutive years in FLORIDA. If he gets top-six minutes playing with Ladd, Kane, etc ... he could be due.

Good that you like players getting their heads cracked on the ice.

I agree on Nordy... PK looked like dogpoop with the exception of the last one.. Thought Hayes looked slow & lost out there tonight... Really hoping to see Smith in the lineup Saturday.

no I don't sir! but that's the risk you take when you take on that role. no different than Parros getting laid out with a good clean hip check & unfortunatly striking his chin on the ice. hope Big George is ok!
the game is already inching it's way into men's league hockey with the icing change ( which isn't the worst thing either), but straight no touch icing will be comi ng along with every player having to wear a full bird cage, no checking period is probably also on the horizon knowing this commissioner. no sense debating the newer generation of hockey fans either. just my preferance to like the game thee way it was back in the 70's&80's, similar to the way teams in the east play, that is all.

When the first NHL player dies while in a fight, fighting will be a thing of the past. And I think it's only a matter of time before someone does get killed in a hockey fight. I was at Iroquios arena in Whitby in 2009 when Don Sanderson was killed in a hockey fight. I didn't see the game, I was there to play pickup on another icepad but I saw him being wheeled out to a waiting ambulance. And before you start, I have no problem with fights and to be honest I enjoy watching two players drop them in the heat of the moment. The problem is the one dimensional goon who's primary role is to fight. These guys are massive, they are exceptionally strong, they train in various fighting techniques but do it precariously balanced on skates on an extremely hard playing surface.

You mock no touch icing but i wonder how yoiu would feel if you crashed into the end boards at 20 or 25 mph and broke your femer? I wonder if you would then understand that a very unnecessary play was worth that kind of injury? Go watch some YOUTUBE vids of Taylor Fedun or Kurtis Foster and tell me you really think the touch icing rule is a good one.

PK was UBER SOFT...too much room and too much space to operate. Forwards got to get out higher on the d-men.
- philco28

Concerning PK, 1st game of the year and pk looked terrible, really packed it in. Nordstrom has potential. Hopefully we revert to the 2012-3 style and not the 2011-2 style. I hope we don't miss Frolik too much. Still a big mistake losing him. BTW, Frolik with 2 goals last night. I am not sure he really fitted into Q's grand scheme, except on pk and 4th line anyways. But it does look like the 4th line is becoming a quality checking line, we will see.

Yeah...with a stride like his and at his age...groin pulls are a constant threat. Announcers speculated that Crow might have been stalling at times during the game due to a possible injury problem, but he went obviously stayed in for the W.
- philco28

Also hinted on dehydration (maybe a little dizzy), it was a big night and lots of pressure in the 2nd period and those damn Washington pp. they said he was going thru lots of water bottles.

Nordstrom has potential and has all season to get better. And he needs to play that pk and regular shifts all year. Will Nordstrom be reliable to be on the ice late in games and late in the season? If available, he needs to log the minutes in order to spare Hossa and Toews lines not to pick up the slack. You know the real game starts in the playoffs, that will be determining factor if Nordstrom (or whoever) replaces Frolik, and then it might be too late. Hope all goes well.

Bollig's 3rd goal of the year - I know 2 were pre-season, but he's only playing less than 10 minutes - and many of those are right at the net, where he can clean up garbage.

Great 5 on 3 pk kill. Really intense.
Other observations - Hammer seemed a little off, but still a plus player. I thought Bickell had a so so game. Crawford looked good except for being a little shaky in the 2nd period. That 2nd and especially 3rd line needs a little chemistry, but it is the first game of the year. And Brouwer looked really good for Washington.

He finally figured out that the front of the net is where he should be. Last season he thought he belonged in the slot with his stick upraised waiting for a one timer.

Very nice. That was the most exciting 17 second-span of my entire life. Losing my virginity would be a close second

I really enjoyed that 17 seconds, but I preferred the 17 seconds of losing my virginity a bit more.

Mine either, but that's what we get for trying to squeeze it in, so to speak, during a commercial break.
