If RNH sucks this year, then we can talk. His extension does not come into effect until next season. So if he plays the same way he did in his rookie year, then his new contract will be a bargain.

Didn't the Oilers have another year before they had to sign him? I just don't get the urgency on the Oilers side after the injuries. Let him play a year and stay healthy then break the bank.

Injury....not injuries....

And it is the same procedure Hall had and came back better than ever. RNH didn't have a "bad" year even though trolls will point to his 4 goals. He was very good advance stats wise and was great defensively. I agree they could have waited, but they saw no point in it. At this point it could be a brilliant signing, or could bite them in the ass. Just have to wait and see.

Problem is they gave Eberle a contract early. You decide not to give your 1st overall an early contract and it can spell trouble. At least if it was only Hall that got the long extension, you'd have more bargaining power with RNH.

Yeah makes sense. Now Yak will expect the same or more correct? I think eventually one of Ebs or Yak will get traded, you agree?

Money isn't the concern to be honest. The biggest concern was giving RNH a contract based on very little NHL action. Yak at least should have a full season under his belt and how he played last year him at 6mil will be a steal.

I think Ebs gets traded. Yak is too explosive to deal. That and for a small guy he crashes out there. Ebs while good doesn't do anything else other than score and will be the odd man out. Although i don't think it's a move we do for a couple years at the very least.

Burke does this. If it works fine. But Sven has definitely not lived up to his draft pedigree at this point.

But that said....Colbourne is no better than Sven....yet they just brought him and are giving him a chance. So why isn't he ripping Colbourne?

Sven needs to get it together or he may become trade bait.

Lived up to the hype? You mean during all of the 25 career games in the NHL he has played? Not to mention the neck injury he battled last year. GIVE ME A FCKING BREAK

Besides, he was a 13th overall pick, not first overall.....nobody else drafted around him has done jack sh!t either!!!!

Some tough love before any bad habits start to develop before we give him a key to the City. Iggy sadly became bigger than the team & poor decisions were forced upon management. Iggy earned his keys, Sven needs to learn what it takes. The kid has talent & expectation is high, Burke just stirred the pot to see how this kid reacts. He's not stupid & like our resident Oiler pointed out, if Sven doesn't respond the way Management wants, his trade value is still very good. I cant imagine Sven not responding like the athlete I believe he is & the elite player I think he can become.

Yes you are correct the guys around him have not done a lot either but all of them have the expectation to make their teams this year. Not all of them have. That was my point. Some are picking Scheifle for the Calder this year. Sven should be making this team this year especially given the state the team is in with so many young guys making it.

I was kinda pissed when I first heard the comments, but it makes sense that these things get said now, rather than 3 years from now - if his bad habits persist.

Also I have no problem with Burke saying whats on his mind, especially since the media asked the question and Burke answered honestly. People are reacting as if the presser was called so Burke can bad mouth Beartschi.

And I also don't blame the team for being hard on him. It's only cause of his talent level. They are hard on him because they know there is more to him.
