As long as we're not giving Rosencrantz the lion's share of offensive zone starts, I'm happy. Although I guess Facepuncherkrieg did get the Leafs to the postseason last year.

While Giroux gets annihilated playing all of those tough minutes, as Adam Hall looks on from the pressbox.

Are you allowed to punch the puck as a faceoff move? How about punching in a goal?

You mean the "tough" PK minutes that can be covered primarily by Talbot, Couturier, Read, with Laughton/Giroux switched in and out? Or the tough PP minutes that we're giving to Hall?

Wait, no, you're right. Dressing Rosehill tonight is possibly the worst decision in the history of sports.

Let's see how the PK minutes are dispersed after the game. Also, defensive zone draws.

This is the same as going on and on about Hall being waived. When it was much ado about nothing. He's still on the team, and has been recalled. Maybe possibly wait and see what the lineup is first?

Another issue with not having Adam Hall in the lineup is Lavy's usage of Couturier.

If he's going to take the next step in his development, he needs to play a bigger role on offense. He can't always be the go-to guy for PK and defensive draws either.

So, so bad compared to today's games. Can you imagine a game where you can't choose whether a player's fat, medium, or skinny, or being able to repeatedly have the USA beat up Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union?

"On a one-by-one basis, the Flyers do not lack for decent NHL defensemen, but is there collectively the right mix of mobility and muscle, puck movement and strength down low in the defensive zone, and of positional savvy and physicality? Based on what was displayed in the preseason, I'd have to say the answer is still no."

This is the key IMO. I'm not ready to say that these d-men aren't able to be a cohesive unit yet though. Fact is was there a preseason game which saw all 6 starting D-men playing together? If so it was only for 1 game. I think the below pairings can work to the Flyers advantage:

Timonen-Coburn
Streit-Schenn
Grossmann-Meszaros/Gustefsson

Also, with the NHL voting in favor of the hybrid Icing rule, I think you will see injuries to d-men go down quite significantly. Which to me means we should be looking to trade Meszaros.

If the team's defense doesn't look better only 3 things can happen. Trade for almost a new defense, Have Lavi change his system, or fire him and bring in a new coach.

I'm not crazy about the Streit-Schenn pairing, but I agree with you're basic premise. If the overall team game doesn't improve defensively. The defenseman and goalies on this team don't stand a chance.

Can you imagine a team that uses their best offensive players on the PK? I mean, just imagine if Detroit used Datsyuk on the PK, or if Chicago used Toews. Imagine if Boston wanted to put Bergeron on the PK or if LA was stupid enough to put Richards on the PK. Those teams would be ruined and those players would be burnt out half way through the year.

Thats not true. If he is good as people say and want him to be, he will have to develop his offensive game WHILE being thier goto defensive forward much like Jordan Staal had to do in Pittsburgh.

The best teams use their best offensive players in offensive situations and leave the majority of the dirty work to role players.

Not saying that Giroux and Couturier shouldn't have defensive zone draws or PK time, but they should be minimized to some degree to preserve their best players.

Plus the one game, and I repeat one game where Rosehill plays, is going to be disastrous to Giroux's Season.
