I'm going to find it annoying when the linesmen screw it up.

First step on a slippery slope towards eliminating hard hits. Collisions on icing calls are no more dangerous than hits when players are racing for a puck when the puck is dumped from just inside the red line. Exact same frequency of collisions, except that one play is now eliminated. Shjon Podein is turning over in his whatever he's in right now.

If there is no chance for a collision between 2 players racing for a potential icing call, icing is called automatically.
If there IS a chance for a collision between 2 players racing for a potential icing call, icing is not called automatically.

Implemented to eliminate collisions between 2 players racing for a potential icing call.

I have a feeling the Flyers always have an eye on the red big trade button.. They know they have assets and will not accept two losing seasons. When things start to get bad, they will probably push that red button.

I have a feeling they would make a big trade before fire the coach.

is that the same button next to Homer's bicycle bell?

Well if it got all mashed from his accident that might be why he hasn't pushed it yet.

I am a touch pessimistic today (thanks MOAT) I keep trying to figure out how many games before the reduction of goalie pad height will mean that Emery will take a puck right in the hip and be out forever...

so if they seemed "tied" then the benefit of the doubt goes to the team that iced it?

It will help when we are losing at the end of a game and they ice the puck on purpose over and over, it eats less time on the clock, as it gets blown dead as soon as it crosses the line and not when the defenseman touches up...
But it does almost nothing for the race back. Most of the time I've seen the linesmen letting a close race play out not the other way around. It's very subjective. And since it's new they will screw it up, we saw it called incorrectly a lot in pre-season.

In theory it should go to the defending team and icing should be called if it's a tight race. What we saw more often than not was that icing was not called and play continued as normal. Only really obvious calls were made (which kinda defeats the point of stopping injuries do to icing collisions).

That's because the linesman now has to focus on at last 6 things (puck, goalie, attacking player, defending player, red line, goal line) instead of 3.

That's my issue with it. It defeats its own purpose.
