Was listening to TSN1200 here in Ottawa today.
The guys there still don't see Toronto as a legitimate threat in the atlantic.
Keep talking about how Phil Kessel is a one-dimensional goal-scorer despite tallying more assists than goals last year for the second year in a row.
Now I don't doubt his physical fitness will become an issue when he leaves his 20's, that said, we have another 4-5 good years from him.
Nobody on the radio mentioned how good Jake Gardiner was...
...and a lot of them discount JVR and his potential to be dynamtie(esp for 4.2m per)
I honestly think JVR is the breakout guy this year. - AngryWhiteMale
well what do you mean by threat? threat to win the division or make the playoffs? because you really can't fault them for not thinking the Leafs are a threat to win the division.

More and more teams are using them. But I guess they are all idiots the don't have a clue.
The fact the leafs were outshot almost every game, combined to the fact they had a weak possession % and a ridiculously high shooting % isn't rocket science.
Scoring once on every 5 shots is a fluke. - Pecafan Fan
Saying they will score less becuase their sh% will go down is Norris minded.
They are a peice of the puzzle, but not he whole story. Those that are i favor of corsi think its the be all and end all, it's not.

I think it was referring to physical threats of violence. They used to have a guy who bites and a guy who lumberjacks.
Now they only have the lumberjack, hence, not a threat. |

The guys on the radio still consider them to be a bubble team. If they're healthy and get good goaltending I think they're a good threat to win the divvy.
The only real weakness I see if perhaps the lack of a true shutdown Dman, yet with good enough goaltending and PK prowess I think they'll survive.

I dont know. Lack of a true leader. I hate it. I think they didnt give it to Vanek outright because it would have been another year of your captain gets moved/is gone at the end of the season. |

Galchenyuk? Gallagher? Plekanec? Desharnais (bounceback)? Eller (keep improving).
I won't bring up Bourque, Gionta, Briere, because although they have scored in the past, they are obviously not to be counted on. |
