Yikes paying a guy 8 million not to be leader. Im not sure I like that.
Now the leafs are paying at guy an average of 5+ for "intangibles" and possibly sitting in the penalty box.

I hope that cap hits 69-70 million next year.

Glad we have Kessel, now trade the sack of sh!t bozak!

- Fakepartofme

I see your point, perhaps I should elaborate.

The leafs as they are currently built do not require his on or off ice leadership that badly as we have plenty. I and all of use would obviously love him to step up that part of his game, but we all know no body is following him into the weight room.

Leafs depth chart 2014-15 as of now lol....

JVR(4.25) Bozak(4.2) Kessel(8.0)

Lupul(5.25) Kadri(2.9) Clarkson(5.25)

No 3rd line yet. Maybe a cheap Marlie like Leivo on it?

McLaren(0.7) no centre Orr(0.925)

With Leivo - 9 forwards. Bolland,Kulemin,Raymond,McClement UFA's

Gunnarsson(3.15) Rielly(925k-bonus doesn't count)

...That's it. Need 5-6 more dmen. Phaneuf, Ranger, Fraser UFAs. Gardiner, Franson RFAs

Bernier(2.9)
Reimer - RFA

We have 23 million in capspace plus however much the cap goes up.

- t_leafs21

Gardiner will sign a bridge deal (2-2.5 mil), Franson will probably get a long deal for 3-3.5, Phaneuf will take a haircut (6m) I think McClement deserves to stay (2M) as does Bolland, if he takes a cut (2.5M)

10 mil + extra from the cap going up to resign Reimer and a couple forwards and couple d-men

Since the start of 2010-11, #Leafs Phil Kessel has 89 goals. Only 3 players have more in that time (Perry, Ovechkin & Stamkos).

- jbold

and its only been in the last year that some other legitimate scoring threats have arrived.

and he did that playing with bozak and crabb for the first half of that tenure

wonder who the defense keyed in on?

For the record, the Kessel deal hasn't been signed yet. Money and term agreed to. A few other details still to be worked out.

what a douche

cause he had one 90+ point season?

hate to break it to you but Kessel was outscoring your beloved Giroux last season.

if Giroux is worth that, so is Kessel

- Dozzer

If you think scoring is all that matters you know nothing about hockey, Giroux is a stud in all facets of the game.

He probably would of had 40 last year. He put up 20 last year and didn't score his first goal til the 10th game.
- t_leafs21

I think he will get 40, especially if he plays with Kadri-Lupul for long stretches

agree on that. but i said what i did because of his age. i have no doubt that for the first year, 2, maybe 3, he'll be that player. it's those years in his mid-30s that i question. but who knows, maybe the cap will be $85 million by then and $5 million won't be a devastating hit.
- DoubleDown

i dont know.. guys stay effective til at least 33-34 anymore. so long as they take their conditioning seriously

his effecitveness will rely more on his attitude off the ice more than anything is my guess

Outside of Kadri, our top-6 is signed long-term... and with guys like Lupul and JVR, we're getting really good deals. That's a huge positive, IMO.

I like Giroux, but he is 98 lbs soaking wet.

So all facets of the game may be a bit of a stretch, my steak sandwich-scarfing friend.

I think their both awesome and would love to have either on my squadron. However Kessel is on my squad so he's better, get over it.

On another note, Seguin was fooling around with another players girlfriend/wife hence the trade

Not going to name the other player because he now plays in Columbus

pretty stupid to compare considering Giroux is a center with better defensive abilities, whereas Kessel is a RW sniper...Giroux is a 25 goal, 90 point center, while Kessel is a 35 goal, 85 point winger...if he plays more with Kadri he is gonna crush those numbers though considering Bozak is basically a 45-50 pt player
