When UG got sent to Purgatory, 16 months ago, the Leafs where 5th from the bottom and have since drafted Morgan Rielly. When he returns from his crypt, in about 2 months, I wonder what UG will have to complain about then? My guess is Dion's contract and whoever is deemed the number 2 goaltender.

I had a guy on Twitter tell me that Kessel isn't worth 8x8 because he's only cracked 65pts once and never hit 40g. I pointed out last year he had 52pts in 48gm and would be well over 65pts in a full season and had 1 season at 64pts. His response "this is cute, you're just proving my point"

So I asked if he's ok with Claude Giroux's contract of 8.275x8 considering Giroux is lesser in goals and slightly better in points...I got no response

Kessel is worth whatever people are willing to pay for him, and he would get $8 million on the open market under the current CBA, maybe even more if he finally cracks 40. whether or not he lives up to it is a different matter, but at 8 x 8 the Leafs are not overpaying.

No problem whatsoever with 8 mil cap hit for Kessel.

We don't need him to be a leader, we simply need him to score 30-40 and get 40-50 assist. Which is attainable.

Anyone valuing him any lower than 8 is lost, he would likely get more as a FA.

Yikes paying a guy 8 million not to be leader. Im not sure I like that.
Now the leafs are paying at guy an average of 5+ for "intangibles" and possibly sitting in the penalty box.

I hope that cap hits 69-70 million next year.

All depends whether Two_for_truth's ban impacts the UG ban I guess, but the UG account was to be free on Dec. 13 if I remember correctly. Admit it, you'd love to have him back, would give you someone other than HH to argue with.

He was a good one to go after the trolls, when they invaded. At least there was some upside to his tirades. I always found him entertaining. The Mods wouldn't agree, however.
