look anywhere from 2-5 is a total crapshoot

It's really all about injuries.

I think Paciorretty is the key guy, he's one of the only player who can have success on 5 on 5 hockey in the lineup. Maybe Galchenyuk and Eller, depends on how Gally has improved.

tell me how Murray is a great skater again.
- Fountain-San

We also laughed at the Gill signing 4 years ago. I doubt Murray brings the same character, but he doesn't need to be that fast to be effective on the PK.

I can see them tailing of a bit but not that bad.
- Stee-Dot

I'm sure there are some of those stat profiling things that suggest there's absolutely no way the Leafs should have been able to maintain their pace for 82 games.

i can see them not making the playoffs at all.

Is there anyone in this (frank)ing thread that can actually talk Leafs realistically without being blindedby sheer Toronto hate other than Marty??

i totally get it. he's a big body and plays the game hard.

i just think it was funny how bent Howard got at the mere mention of his skating.

I always thought the signing of Gill was brillant.

Murray will help out our depth and is an insurance policy if Tinordi struggles.

Bouillon isn't that young either, injuries will happen and we'll be glad to have him.

Cheers!

dude, listen closely. i've always liked the leafs. i own a few pieces of leaf apparel. it would be great for the NHL to have them be a yearly contender. that said, i don't know if they can do what they did last year in 82 games. and i'm not the only one.

i think it's even more about goaltending. what if Anderson's play regresses to his career norms? or if Jimmy Howard's play slips a bit? (Wings would not have been in the playoffs with anything but excellent goaltending). and what if Price's game takes a step up or Bernier plays to his potential? i find the teams are clumped together enough that goaltending will be the great divide.

Many make it out as if everone is 40 years old and will run out of gas after 10 games.

Leafs have a lot of fresh young legs IMO.

they all say that. there's a reason a standard season is 82 games. it's because it takes that many games to separate the good from the bad. that's why it's hard to take anything we saw last year too seriously, Habs and Leafs included.

I predict a 3 pts difference between ottawa, toronto and montreal.

Something like 94, 95 and 96 pts for those 3 teams.

only because he was phenomenal to start the year and the team coasted along on that start. In a full season, they finish 7-9

And he apparently had a not that bad season the year before (while having almost the exact same stats) and they finished 15th in the East.

Doesn't change the fact they played way better than they should have and are likley to regress towards the mean. 7th place finish.
