Sure, they were defensively responsible, but Murray had a veritable bevy of All-Stars and he managed to put them all into a team-wide scoring funk that lasted for years. Kings fans practically threw a parade when he was fired.

Why trade one 'extreme' for another?

- Tomahawk

It's not trading one exteme for another. If you're characterizing Murray as a Coach whose style stifles the offense of a team, that would be incorrect. Murray would be exactly what this team needs in the interim.

Can someone please tell me what Gill brings to the table on a NHL contract. I understand him as a AHL guy who can leave at anytime but seriously wtf is going on with this guy.

Murray hasn't won a playoff series in nearly two decades! Bring him on!
- PLindbergh31

This isn't a playoff team so what difference does it make.

It's a shame we were in the Cup final a couple years ago against Chicago and last season they won it again and we can't make the playoffs.

He's an NHL defenseman and we're not sure we'll have 7 come Wednesday. Heck we're picking a forward out of three that haven't shown they deserve an NHL job at this point.

I guess he's good in the room etc, but I see what you are getting at. In case of an injury to the top 6, I would probably want Gervais out there before Gill.

This can be a playoff team if things break right.

Chicago will prob win the Cup again this year. A Dynasty.

Just Google "Kings Murray Offense"... there's enough there to keep you occupied for the rest of the day.

This whole organization went off the rails when we didn't get Kane.. Damn lottery.. lol

I think with the talent that's here, we should make the playoffs.

It's a long season and I have no idea what to expect from this team. The preseason certainly didn't show me anything to feel good about. I thought they'd be in a position to miss the playoffs before the preseason.

Look at how well they played last season when Lavy changed his system due to injuries...if murray takes over i think they make the playoffs. if Mason can get hot who knows?

That year in LA is not the only team Murray has Coached. Take a look at the teams Murray coached in Philly with Lindros and Company.
Like I said previously, if you're characterizing Murray as a defensive only Coach who stifles a team's offense, that would be incorrect.

He was fired from LA for not being able to coach his way out of scoring slumps and losing streaks. The Phantoms have been anemic offensively during his tenure.

The fact that you have to travel 16-years into the past, to a different era of hockey, to make your example... that should tell you all you need to know.

With the plethora of offensive talent in Adirondack, I'm not surprised.

Murray seems unlikely... maybe he gets bumped up to asst. or assoc., but I don't see Hexy advocating for the hiring of a guy he helped to fire just a scant 2-years ago, nor do I see Homer/Snider willing to revisit the ghosts of 1997.

Paddock's never been much of a coach... plus, he seems to have settled on a front-office track since he hasn't really had much success behind the bench.

My gut tells me it's Berube as interim if they decide move on from Lavi.

- Tomahawk

I think that Berube's lack of head coaching experience means he's not a serious candidate...could be wrong, but I'd rather see Murray get it over those two.

I don;t have much stomach from trading a pick to get a coach, although there's a few guys I like

If every game was played outdoors in Boston, he'd probably have AT LEAST 5 career goals, maybe 6-7.
