Well what I'm saying is that Laughton had an impressive season regardless of where he played.

No matter what they do, I don't think it will hurt Laughton's development. I think we're all just a bit disappointed that he hasn't stood out after a good preseason last year and a strong season in Juniors.

I was ready to pencil him in to the 4th line because I thought he'd be ready. Im not afraid to admit that I've been wrong up to this point.

- PhillySportsGuy

That's the thing -- I had hoped to see something that made me feel that he was completely capable of holding down that spot, no doubt/concerns. It's not like anyone has an Adam Hall jersey at home, you know?

But, as noted before because we have discussed it since camp opened, I simply do not believe that he will be harmed if he goes back now or after nine games.

He's 19. He doesn't have to be ready now, you know?

The PK was great last year. I don't see why they can't experiment with either Laughton or Hall in Giroux's place.

They could really use a guy like John Mitchell.

- PhillySportsGuy

If Hall sticks, they can. He's a very good faceoff guy and penalty killer. That's why I was bothered that they waived him instead of Rosehill. To me, Hall is worth keeping just to limit Giroux from taking 1200 faceoffs again.

I'm OK with him getting the 9 games. My main issue with the "moves" they've made so far is deciding to risk Hall rather than Rosehill to waivers. If Hall did get claimed, they'd really have few options besides Laughton to stick as the 4th line center.

If Laughton does stick, I want him getting a lot of extra time on the PK and occasionally getting a shot to jump up to a better line or even get spotted on the PP.

- Jsaquella

I don't understand why Hall has such little value in the NHL. He's been waived several times. He's a guy who wins face-offs and plays well defensively. He's also a solid PK guy. To me, he's a prototypical 4th liner.

I guess i'm looking at him through rose colored glasses. Maybe other teams don't worry as much about face-offs.

On Laughton, completely agree. Needs to be a situation like Cooter. He gets more confidence, and gets rewarded. I know we've beaten this to death, but so I am clear, once Monday hits and we are under the cap, Hall could be in the lineup Wednesday if needed?

He could be, but no one ever knows with Homer.

they just need to improve their 5 on 5 play and they'll be fine

This is true. Overall, the bigger issue to me is whether or not the team can flip the switch and play better defensively than they have in the preseason. Lots of reasons that they had a poor record, split squad, the flu etc, but they need to come out strong. I really don't want to see us get smoked in our home opener vs a Leafs team that played the night before.

He's a guy that usually gets claimed when he is waived. He's not a vital guy, in and of himself, but guys like him are needed on good teams. My objection to waiving him, besides risking him instead of Rosehill, was that wahy lose him and then have to surrender an asset to replace him or have to sign a new guy that might demand more money?

Most other teams also have more than one guy who can win faceoffs at a 50% clip, too

That would be unsettling. On any number of levels.

Is it worth keeping Laughton this season if all he does is play the 4th line with Rosehill, Hall, and/or Rinaldo? One more season of big minutes in juniors might not be a bad thing after the 9 games.

Also, not a big deal but it says 14 forwards but you have 13 listed

- houseofcards74

That's because there are only 13 forwards currently with the club but another may be added/recalled before rosters have to be set.

Absolutely. he cleared waivers, and even if he's sent down, he won;t have to go through waivers to be recalled

You make it seem so easy. They haven't been a good even strength team in over a year now. Unfortunately, they look a lot like the team from last year.

Thanks. I thought that, but wanted to be sure we are in the clear to keep him.

If Gus scared you, Meszaros should have had you hiding under the bed with a crucifix and garlic.
- Jsaquella

Actually no. Mez wasn't great but I felt he did better. But it might have been his partner.

I feel like Gus was paired with Gil and Gervais a lot in the pre season. If he's put with Grossmann for an extended period of time, I think he would find consistency. Especially getting 3rd pairing minutes.
- PhillySportsGuy

I honestly didn't take his partners into consideration but I should have. I'll keep an open mind. But it wasn't his partner which had the bad turnovers or got burned a few times, sigh...

Mesz made we want to drink poison. He was terrible throughout. Gustafsson had issues, but also had a couple of good periods. Meszaras was pretty much bad throughout

With Adam Hall, Bruno Gervais and Marc-Andre Bourdon still not sent to the AHL, the Flyers are $1,952,022 over the salary cap.

If they sent all three down today, they would be under the cap by $86,022, if capgeek.com is correct.

I'm not sure why the Flyers are even considering not sending Bourdon to the AHL. There is no benefit to keeping him in the NHL, outside of further exploitation of the LTIR benefit.

Dave Isaac points out he could be sent to the AHL here: http://blogs.courierposto...s-place-three-on-waivers/

- Jsaquella

CapGeek.com removed Gervais.

if they trade Mezaros for picks they'll be at about 74K under counting bonuses. Perfect time to LTIR Pronger.

Nah. When word comes down that Rosehill, and Gill have made the team, you will be dancing on the ceiling.
