Agree with you. But you can't fire the team. The team will be better than last year's but will be lucky to make the playoffs. They lack the talent to be a true contender and that ain't the coaches fault. Not looking forward to Terry Murray but that's where this could end up.

Yup. I'm with you.

you could also spin it by saying he's only won 2 series in the last 3 years. 1 round, 1 round, 0 rounds (no playofss).

i think the firing conversation is a bit premature since the season hasn't even started, but he's got to be on the hot seat given the downward trend in finish from 2010-2013.

The preseason has shown that he can't coach this team and that we need Jon Sim.

I'm sure he is on the hot seat. If they get off to a terrible start I'm sure he will probably be gone. Lets hope it doesn't happen.

A shortened season in which the team was crippled by injuries isn't a good barometer of accessing his overall body of work in Philadelphia.
- PLindbergh31

I didn't assess his overall body of work. I simply stated that he didn't do a good job coaching last season. How do you think his overall body of work in Carolina was assessed? He won a Cup there. They still fired him! Fact of life for a Coach. What have you done lately!

I'm just rarely ever happy with a mid season replacement unless you have a young coach in the wings making a difference. I don't think that's the case in Philly as I can't locate that person. If we're going to start talking about firing Laviolette I'd have preferred they did that in June.

And since they fired him how has Carolina done?

Answer: They have missed the playoffs 4 out of 5 years. Geniuses!

Well like I said in a previous post, changing Coaches isn't an automatic fix. It could get worse. Laviolette won a Cup in Carolina, and then missed the playoffs 3 straight years. What should Carolina have done?

That's exactly why I'm not in favor of firing Laviolette, to bring in a 63 year old man who hasn't won a playoff series in nearly two decades.

If the Flyers get off to a slow start, and they want to bring in Guy Boucher, or someone of that ilk, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Just posting in case some people aren't aware of the numbers.

Laviolette during his time in Philadelphia.

145-95-29

Pretty damn good. He's also won 5 playoff series. I understand the frustration with his unwillingness to adapt, but overall the guy has done a good job. Sure he's made mistakes, but I'm happy with him being the coach. Weighing the alternatives before making a coaching change should always be considered. IMO, you don't just fire a guy for the sake of firing him.

Eh, I wouldn't call 21 games over .500 "pretty damn good."

There were some exciting playoff series for sure, but most of the tenure has been just eh.

A lot of the overtime losses are shootouts, in which the goalies couldn't stop a beach ball.

Getting points in 65% of the games he's coached is pretty good.

We still don't play a style that can win in the late rounds of the playoffs. I don't care what his record is, he's got to adjust to a team defensive system that will allow us to compete with teams like Bostn, Chicago, and LA.

Capgeek is off by a few bucks, because all they did was send Hall and Gervais up and submit a 21 man roster

We're two young skilled Defenseman away from competing with them.

Here's hoping they're in the system.

Of course they are, but there's no way we're upsetting a team like that with the system mismatch we have (forget beating Boston in 7, that was a team breakdown on their part and would not happen if we met again)

Yeah, let's go and carbon copy Boston, Chicago and/or LA... like we carbon copied NJ, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh (attack system, weee!).

This time, it's gonna work.

Well, Gervais will probably stay in ADK unless there's a couple injuries. Hall might be a paper move, but Holmgren said that he wouldn't make a paper move with Schenn or Couturier...never mentioned Hall
