He was fired from LA for not being able to coach his way out of scoring slumps and losing streaks. The Phantoms have been anemic offensively during his tenure.

The fact that you have to travel 16-years into the past, to a different era of hockey, to make your example... that should tell you all you need to know.

yes and that team went on to destroy opponents on its way to a stanley cup. they could win 2-1 games...something the flyers cant do under lavys system.

Because the decision on a new coach will already have been made, because the team will fold and disband, or because NUKULAR WAR GO MERICA?

In the Flyers' defense, some of those bantam teams have serious offensive firepower.

Those Ice Dogs kids are huge. They should have played the Delco Phantoms.

Actually, during the time Murray coached the Kings, they finished in the top ten in the NHL in goals scored in 2009-10, and he often had his teams finish in the top ten in that category prior to coaching LA.

I believe it was 10 out of 15 years that he had done so, but I can't recall off the top of my head.

I do view Murray or Paddock as a short term, interim fill in. I would have rather seen them pull the plug last year and hire a new coach this summer

You know, when we agree people in authority should stand up and take action.

Just saying.

Don't the Ice Dogs have that new video technology to constantly see the play? What do you think of it?

Ha!. No, its cameras that stream video and technology that automatically follows the play like a pro game would on tv without the prof cameraman or his salary. I have heard about it but not seen it in action.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong -- HA! I'm sure 56 people are ready and waiting for that one -- but as of this moment, unless an announcement has been made, the Flyers are still over the cap, correct? With 40 minutes to go?

Yes, I realize they'll be compliant come 5 p.m., but I just wanted to make sure I understood what's going on here.

That appears to be the case. But just because tpanotch isn't reporting something doesn't mean that paperwork isn't being filed.

Pretty damn good. He's also won 5 playoff series. I understand the frustration with his unwillingness to adapt, but overall the guy has done a good job. Sure he's made mistakes, but I'm happy with him being the coach. Weighing the alternatives before making a coaching change should always be considered. IMO, you don't just fire a guy for the sake of firing him.

Firing the coach is always the answer. The Eagles are a much better team now with Chip Kelly than they ever were with Reid. The Phillies appear to be heading in the right direction since Sandberg took over, I'm thinking they'll have the division wrapped up by mid-June next year. And the Sixers...well, they're a basketball team, I think.

If we're switching coaches, I'd want Snider to hand Scotty Bowman a blank check and say, "We'll see you tomorrow morning."

He was fired for why most Coaches were fired. Because the team was underacheiving. Pretty much every Coach eventually gets fired for a variety of reasons. I didn't need to go back that far. But it's a relevant example, and shows that using one Season for a Coach as a means to label a Coach is incorrect. Hockey is Hockey. 16 years ago, or now.

And the Phantoms offensive struggles wouldn't have anything to do with the offensive talent down there would it?

The Phantoms have tons of offensive talent. They have Jason Akeson, a legitimate 1st line NHL winger. They have Tye McGinn, a future Selke candidate who could chip in 40-80 goals in the NHL per year. They should score like 70 goals a game.

Agree with you. But you can't fire the team. The team will be better than last year's but will be lucky to make the playoffs. They lack the talent to be a true contender and that ain't the coaches fault. Not looking forward to Terry Murray but that's where this could end up.

As far as I'm concerned, he just didn't do a good job last Season. We'll see what happens this year. If a team flounders and doesn't seem like it's going to pull out of it, a team doesn't have much choice. And bringing in a new Coach isn't an automatic fix. It could also get worse.

you could also spin it by saying he's only won 2 series in the last 3 years. 1 round, 1 round, 0 rounds (no playofss).

i think the firing conversation is a bit premature since the season hasn't even started, but he's got to be on the hot seat given the downward trend in finish from 2010-2013.

Yeah, you can buy the games for coaching. You can see the play from all angles. It's costly and they use it in house. I've never seen one.

A shortened season in which the team was crippled by injuries isn't a good barometer of accessing his overall body of work in Philadelphia.
