Is anyone else not convinced that Carlyle is the right coach...I think he is a good coach..but some of the roster moves make me wonder.
Like Keeping 2 goons instead of a young 4th liner

anyone else feel that way?

I'm more worried about Nonis not having traded yet for Crosby, Toews, Tavares, Ovechkin, Keith and OEL..

who is the young 4th liner you're talking about?

And those goons did fine last year... they're not going to put up a ton of points, but they can still play hockey, unlike a guy like Scott... and they'll help keep those guys in check.

Who was the young 4th liner?

Definitely not Colborne. He isnt a 4th liner, and would be useless on the 4th line.

How soon people forget about John Scott.

Wanna know if Carlyle is the right coach? Look at our team last season. Finally toughened up and made the playoffs

I think that we are going in the proper direction, to win in the playoffs. If we want to get there, we need to be one of the toughest teams in the league. The Leafs are not blessed with any real franchise players and play with a team concept. Being tough, standing up together in a pack mentality, gives the team an identity. You can have loads of talent, like the Islanders and Oilers, but you need to have team chemistry. With the Leafs size, grit and scoring off of the wings, they are formitable, against teams with skill, but lacking in toughness.

Predictions for the year?

Where do they finish?

Biggest surprise/ move forward?

Biggest disappointment/ fall back?

Here are mine.

They finish 5th.

Lupul hurt again. Misses 25 to 40 games

Ranger proves he is still a very solid top 4 D in the league.

Im not a fan of some of the decisions he makes thats for sure. He seems stuck on old school mentalities some times...but overall he's ok.

For most people on here, they'll say "well we got us into the playoffs during a half season...so he must be an awesome coach!"

Leafs finish behind Boston and Detroit in the conference.

Jake Gardiner does not make the jump and falls to the bottom pairing, because of poor defense.

JVR scores 30 and Kessel reaches 90 points.

Leafs win season series against Sens, Habs and Sabres.

Leafs play the Rangers in the opening round and win in 5.

I understand the reasons for keeping them..maybe that brings up more of a concern..that we dont have any young talent that can take the place of Orr or Mclaren.

When you factor in Clarkson and Fraser (if he can fight anymore)...imo its a little overkill. obviously the team is built for Carlyle.

just playing D.A.

Well not necessarily, wont be able to prove it either way.

But blocking shots and having a good PK is not a mentality owned by only him.
Every coach has that mentality.
Like I said, I disagree with some things, but overall he's been decent.
Now I want to see what he can with a full season.

i think the jury is still out for any coach who hasn't spent a full 82-game season with their new club. should find out a lot this season about guys like Carlyle, Therrien, Muller and whether or not they're the right fits for their respective teams.

no there needs to be some ambiguity in ending a show like that. the idea is that they're now free of Walt, and what they do with their lives is up to them.
